Yes, but some of the highs are great.
Nothing beats seeing someone walking around days or months after, when the last time you saw them they were hooked up to an AED

I never had to do CPR on anyone, not sure if that's good or bad. Out in the country, when the EMS arrives on scene, usually either just happened or happened a long time ago. I ended up going to a lot of the "happened a long time ago" calls.

I worked nights then too, and lots of heart attacks were reported in the morning when the victim didn't wake up

I haven't volunteered on an ambulance in since 1998 and I would have to re-certify on just about everything before I could do it again.
I probably will never do it again, but I am glad I did.
Next month I will be doing my 75 hour first aid re-certification,nothing like 2 full weeks on your hands and knees followed up by an 8 hour test.
I am getting too old and fat for this

My goal at one time was to be a paramedic, and part of the process was volunteering.
Probably part of the reason I made sure my kids were strongly educated in drinking and driving.
I think that education helped them this past July when 2 of their friends were killed while drinking and driving
