Probably whiskey for me as well. In all likelyhood it would be Makers Mark.

Oh and for me, a long time ago it would probably been a beer or maybe some Canadian Mist if there were some 7up around.

Whisky, scotch, burbon. All about the same. Scotch is whiskey from Scotland, is all, IIRC.

I drink to relax a little. Takes the edge off. I used to powerdrink just to get drunk, but that ship sailed a long time ago. Now, it's just sipping a little at a time. When it's Whiskey, usually one glass is all I'll drink in an evening.

Now drinking whiskey/bourbon/scotch is to take the edge off or just relaxation. Scotch has more of a peat flavor, whiskey can be made out of rye for a sweeter taste, and bourbon is made in Kentucky only.

how about cognac/brandy?

I have not drank a lot of cognac or brandy. What I do remember of the ones I did taste (Hennesy) it was very sweet. I think it would be a good drink for those cold nights, or around an open fire.
