Last fire I started with a firesteel all I used for tender was shredded up TP. Hope it was virgin TP!

MB, I've seen fatwood "sawdust" sold in round canisters like dip and it was called Mayan dust I believe.

I think using a firesteel has made me better at starting/ building fires. It made me pay attention to what I was doing and find more suitable tinder to get a nice stable fire to build upon.

I have never tried the maya dust but its probably the same thing. Mine is free though. LOL

I figure even the kids, when they were younger, could help by making tender with the pencil sharpener. I could do it with a knife, but any way the kids could help out.....
