Ridgebacks were our first choice, shelties our second. However, when we saw our two little guys at the breeder, we fell in love with them, had to have them.
Your little guy is going to grow into quite a big guy. Good luck with him!
You made a great choice.

I have been dog shopping recently. I never thought of a ridgeback though.
What are they like temperment wise? This might sound strange but my two choices are Beagle or Dogo so far. Dogo is an argentinian breed for hunting hogs so Busse owners beware.

Though itīs our first Ridgeback (also our first own dog) I canīt speak of own experience. All I can tell is about what we read and what we heard from owners.
Two and a half years ago we decided to purchase a dog. Our decision was a ridgeback will fit very well. Then my wife got pregnant and we decided to wait. So we had a lot of time to read.
Maybe you may get an SMALL overview here about where they are from and what they are used for
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodesian_Ridgeback
As it is wikipedia itīs not nearly complete.
What nearly everyone will tell you: You need dog experience if you want to raise a ridgeback and theyīre difficult to handle and very sensible and own minded ...
My suggestion is to talk to owners and breeders and read enough to make your own decision.
Hope this helps a little.

Have to edit this because I just read where you are home Unsub:
Most Ridgebacks donīt like rain and cold temperature. No kidding. They have no subfur/underfur (is this a usual term in english? Want to say they have just the short hair you can see and nothing beneath)because theyīre an african breed.

While waiting for the hook a new puppy found his home in my pack. Hope you like it.

Just to keep you informed:
That little lionhunter had a discussion with our couchtiger yesterday. I knew they had to discuss it out but unfortunately that experienced cat directly hit him in one eye so we had to go to a doc. He said it looks worse than it is but he doesnīt know if it would heal completly. The eye is cloudy now. Hope it will not stay like this. The brave puppy was a little sleepy yesterday but today everything seems to be fine and he not seems to be disabled in any way. And thatīs most important. Time will tell.
Greetings
Dilan

My neighbor has a dog that is the terror of the neighborhood. It is very aggressive to other dogs and squirrels. I had Pixie, the cat my ex-room mate abandoned, on a leash and was taking her for a walk in the yard. The dog ran up to us and Pixie puffed up to about twice her normal size and attacked the dog. Scared the crap out of the dog and it ran home and scratched at the door to be let in. Now when it sees Pixie come out it runs and hides. It's the funniest thing.

BTW - Pixie is the sweetest cat ever and loves every human she's ever met.
