Though itīs our first Ridgeback (also our first own dog) I canīt speak of own experience. All I can tell is about what we read and what we heard from owners.
Two and a half years ago we decided to purchase a dog. Our decision was a ridgeback will fit very well. Then my wife got pregnant and we decided to wait. So we had a lot of time to read.
Maybe you may get an SMALL overview here about where they are from and what they are used for
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodesian_RidgebackAs it is wikipedia itīs not nearly complete.
What nearly everyone will tell you: You need dog experience if you want to raise a ridgeback and theyīre difficult to handle and very sensible and own minded ...
My suggestion is to talk to owners and breeders and read enough to make your own decision.
Hope this helps a little.
Have to edit this because I just read where you are home Unsub:
Most Ridgebacks donīt like rain and cold temperature. No kidding. They have no subfur/underfur (is this a usual term in english? Want to say they have just the short hair you can see and nothing beneath)because theyīre an african breed.
