I figure that if I at least get a good base for muscle now, I'll be going into my muscle building prime in the next couple years, so I'll just get bigger from there.

No, those guys are disgusting, I want to be practically strong. Either in the Marine Corps or just in everyday life.

Then focus on full body workouts in circuits that will give you sustain exertion. Lifting a pair of dumbells 8-12 times for three sets with rest in between is good from strength, but will never get you fit.

I do two circuits a week. I pick ten exercises that hit many muscle groups like pullups, squats, pushup rows, etc. Then I do them back to back as fast as I can doing 10 reps a piece. I rest until my pulse goes under 100 bpm then I start again. I do 4 sets of these.

Would you say that a combination of these would be a good way to build strength and get fit? I ask because I'm not exactly the strongest guy, so I think that building strength is a must at this point.

Yes I would.

I workout five days a week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday I do traditional workouts. Tuesday and Thursday I do circuits.

I do some form of cardio everyday too. I usually hit the gym for lunch and then run or bike after work.

Diet is a huge part as well. I eat mostly meat and veggies and fruit. Not very much pastas, rice or things like that. I always have a protein shake after heavy lifting too.

To give you an idea of how this is working out for me, I weigh 145 and can bench 215.

Alright. I agree, Bruce was a beast. We've got an Asian kid at our school, biggest jerk, has some kind of superiority complex, but I'll be darned if he isn't the strongest guy in the school pound for pound.


I've been trying to eat better, but given that all meals are provided by the school I don't have much say. Oh, and all the meals are based on either rice, pasta, or bread, and lots of it...
