I think that Captain should have been fired. No, HE should have been made to cross the minefield. I hate MILITARY MORONS!

Sometimes you have to though, especially in combat units. If I would have been an infantry NCO, I would have sent one of my troops in. You want to protect the most experienced and capable assets you have to keep the group safe. Since I am not in the business of killing, except when I am called on for patrols, I can make a little different decisions than combat arms units.

IF it was necessary for mission completion, and NOT just to get some pics for a story I could understand/deal with it.

I think that Captain should have been fired. No, HE should have been made to cross the minefield. I hate MILITARY MORONS! We didn't even run the photos I took. It was a pure recon type mission that ended up being fruitless and my pictures didn't show anything the Cambodians didn't already describe to us in detail. I didn't sleep for two days out of shock and anger.

Without knowing the particulars, I would say your Captain was and possibly still is an Idiot! I worked for two Majors like that. One was in the Aleutian islands and one was in Japan. They must have been related.

He wasn't an idiot. He was a little to hungry. He thought he was going to uncover something that would have made a difference. If we would have found what he thought we would, we both would have been decorated, but I would gladly trade any of my medals, hell all of them to never have to do that again.

We could have waited a few days for the birds to get there and do a fly over, but then they would have gotten credit. This is why I said he was too hungry.

I have met many like that. Unfortunately they are usually allowed to breed. BUT SOMETIMES they get slapped down to size by someone that DOES have some sense and they finally learn without doing any real, lasting damage TO SOMEONE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES!

JJ, how do your Bussekin deal with the Marine Corps? I have only used mine in training and a few times in Africa during bilateral training. They seem to be made for the abuse I put them through. A Green Beret saw my Parachutemandu in Africa and loved it. His team all started hunting for one. The teams usually carry the same knife. (Teams are usually 12 men) I have been looking on BF and eBay for them. We have found four so far. Those four lost their coating faster than any I have seen before from heavy use. They love them.
