why does anybody need INFI?

When you sharpen it on a belt-sander, the dust is more delicious than S7.

For what it is worth, I watched Jerry developed INFI. You cannot imagine the hours and endless frustrations he went through until he finally develop INFI. So I know for a fact that he is the creater, developer and king hog of INFI.

From that expierence, I recognized his pure brilliance. Don't ever tell him I said this...none of us will be able to live with him. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Dan

I won't tell him. I have noticed that is very easy to resharpen for such a hard steel. I like SR-77 for the same reason. Some of the old German steels were just so "slick" and hard, that I hated to sharpen them. I hate ATS-34 for the same reason. I can't carry the belt sander with me into the swamp. I like a steel that I can bring back quickly with a steel or ceramic rod that I carry with me. Both INFI and SR-77 have this characteristic, as does 1095.

So the plot thickens. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Jerry IS the "INVENTOR" of INFI PERIOD. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

PERIOD. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

And as pointed out so eloquently by my brotherhood,SR-77 is already more steel than we need, but INFI is the best of the best. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

And any true COLLECTOR of blades is incomplete without that INFI stick. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

On to the birthday blade for my wife. SS-4 from the secondary market. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Is ...no that's a stupid question I won't ask it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" />

I have to, is Dans INFI stick a piece of REAL INFI from Jerry's oven? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />

Sorry for the stupid question. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/footinmouth.gif" alt="" />

I knew it, I knew it in my heart and head.
I think I just needed reassurance.

Thanks,
Peace.

Taking NOTHING away from the SS4, there is something to be said for owning INFI with the Busse Combat logo on the blade.

If that sounds like an endorsement for the BATAC, that's because it is. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> And by the time you purchase an SS4 on the secondary market, you'll pay close to the price of a BATAC anyway.

Just a thought. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I have a BATAC coming. I love the way it looks. That is a combat knife. It is quite different from the SS4, IMO. One day, Dan will make another one. Maybe in INFI, maybe in SR-77. Either way, I'm getting one. Or one of those Safari Skinners.

Yes I know.
But some information about INFI must be public knowledge right?
It is made from 1080 High Carbon tool steel, then heat treated for 48 hours to change the molecular structure of the metal into INFI.
You know a story like that. Is there ANY hint at all as to the base metal that INFI is made from?
If not then this is easily the best kept secret in the knife industry. Jerry is buying tons of steel from someone, somewhere. Then he magically turns their steel into INFI.
Come on. Is there really a hint in print as to what INFI started its life as?
Just my curiosity getting the best of me. I read about my friends ALL having a piece of INFI. You know who you are! STOP SMILING!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
I own just under a hundred blades.Tactical, folders, fixed, switchblades, out the fronts, neckers, choppers, and art knives.

I do not own a single piece of INFI. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

It is getting to me. With the price of INFI being a consideration I will have to save money on the side to make it happen. My 50th birthday is in September and my loving bride of 27 years says I can have a nice blades for my celebration. Something special to mark the occasion.I have let her know that my goal is a SS-4 by of course Dan Busse. Yes, I know they were a one run item. Yes I know they are the perfect blade too. And I watch the secondary market like a hawk too. I know that they are there from time to time. Current prices are about $200.00 not bad considering all things.
So that is why my curiosity has got the best of me mates.
I need to start smacking my chops about getting my first and probably only piece of INFI. I ask that dumb question to help me understand the mystery, the legend, the joy of owning INFI.

Can anyone elaborate on INFI to satisfy my curiosity?

Thanks,
Peace.

Mr Peace I have to ask, if you are going to let Mrs Peace spend $200+ on a SS4 then why not give her the extra $27 and order a Badger Attack TAC now from Busse Combat ? In my opinion it is a nicer looking knife and will be worth more, due to being a Busse, on the secondary market should you ever decide to sell it !!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I think Pitman is spot-on PoP. The BATACs are shipping now and are only a little more money for a whole lotta knife, IMHO. It is your birthday after all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I must disagree with the advice given above regarding getting the BATAC, instead of the Scrapper 4. Certainly, the BATAC is a great knife, however...

There have only been two models of knives ever made which had a combination of INFI steel and resiprene C handles (The Swamp Rat INFIcoot, and the Scrap yard Scrapper 4), and both were very small, limited runs. The combination is excellent, is not merely a poor man's substitute for a real Busse Combat knife; this materials combo has its own value, which is not to be discounted. This combination of knife materials has never been offered by Busse Combat, so that is not an option.

There will always be a succesion of great Busse Combat knives available, but there may not be another knife like the scrapper 4 for years, if ever. The BATAC is available in much larger numbers, and may also be available in future runs.

As for resale value (as though you'd want to... LOL), the scrapper 4 will rise proportionally higher in value, and will do so faster, for the reasons stated above.
