Thats kind of what I thought But since I'm a nebie I just thought I would ask someone here.

me? nothing right now... my dad had a SKS a long time ago that I handled but never shot. his was a heep. left me with a bad opinion on the SKS. had a friend who bought up a few in the 90's and loved them. finally did some research and think now that even that may be an option if the AK never comes around.

Well I think an AR is a much more refined weapon and better distance weapon but it lacks the knockdown of the AK. There is something that is special about an AK and nothing in the world sounds like one. Plus if you want something to toss around. Then an AK is definitely a good weapon for that.

SKSs are great weapons too. I wish I had bought a few when they were 75 bucks. Just make sure and check the barrels on any of these guns (AK, Mosin, SKS). If it is a battle field pickup up, or arsenal (Parts Gun) then you just have to check the barrels I have had good luck. But My uncle got a Mosin that has a deformity in the chamber and it mushrooms every round through it. An I have a freind that buys a lot of these kinds of rifles and he has found quite a few pitted barrels (from the old corrosive ammo or just lack of care).

i just can't seem to like the AR15 platform. I mean I like it fine but not for me. I think if I find a good deal on one I would get it but I'm not lookin for one.

You can find pretty good deals on the siagas sometimes with the long barrels.

Also you can convert the SKS to accept the AK mags. Depending on where you live you have a lot of options. With all of these tyopes of guns you can buy good ones and bad ones. certain countries that produced both the SKS and AK had major differences.

China and Russia - Chrome line barrels (Mostly)

Some of the other countries didn't.

I'm not saying the chinese or russian guns are better. I'm just saying know what you are getting. I have shot many a round through an unlined barrel.

I'm becoming more fond of it. But I love the simplicity of the AK. I know what you mean.
