In addition to any wood being more prone to splitting due to shock from chopping, it will also transfer much more of the same shock to the chopper's hand/arm. No wood on choppers. Just MO.
Something on the scale of teh SS4 -- GO FOR IT.

Stabby, I agree res-C for choppers.. MAYBE micarta for little blades. (I've got to say that as I'm waiting on Amy O's tender mercies for my Badger!)
