hey vic,
I saw your post on BF on the thread Kershaw Knives News Thread here:

If your JYD2 turned out to be a Lemon....which is what i think happened....
you could personally email Thomas W (the Kershaw sales manager) or even Craig Green who is also in Kershaw management and arrange for the knife to be sent to Oregon....I'm sure they'd fix it/ replace it right away.....outstanding customer service....
I bought two of the 1st Titanium Zdp189 Leeks when they were first released and the factory edge arrived rather obtuse....like 40deg inclusive
after reading complaints on Bladeforums the Kershaw guys, told everyone who was unhappy with the factory edge to mail it back to them (attn: Craig Green) for a regrind.....I sent them in and got them back in 10-14 days with 30deg edges...
I'd definitely send the defective knife back to them.... coz mine arrived perfect and there are 2 many positive reviews about the JYD2 on BF that I think u got a fluke...

cool beans vic....i've been reading good things about that razor blade steel Sandvik 13c26....As I am a noob steelhead, what i know of the steel is from reading posts by more knoweledgable forumites like our very own Thombrogan and the comments about the 13c26 have been "very favorable".....

Thom answered my steel question too, HD. He said the Blur was 440A and the Bump was 13C26.

Thomas seems to think it is my lack of strength and ability. Maybe he is right. IMO the design is poor. If it were properly designed, a person of ordinary strength and dexterity should be able to open it easily with one hand. I think I have at least ordinary strength and dexterity. All "flipper" actuated knives should have an assist, since the flipper only lets you open it half-way. Then you must sling the knife (not a good idea) or pull the blade to it open the rest of the way.

hey vic,
b/c I have the JYD2 (along with the JYD1 and the Groove) and it deploys easily with very gentle finger tip actuation..... I KNOW you've got something wrong with yours....and I read what Thomas wrote......which is why I posted here and I urge u to send that lemon in for a new one or at least Repair....
the smaller JYD 1 is the only one out of the three (JYD1/2/Groove) that requires me to use some wrist assist to open it up....
the JYD2 and Groove are opened up with VERY light pressure.....not much more than when deploying my AO Bump or Leeks ...
hope this helps...

Thanks, Brian. That makes me think that maybe mine is defective. The liner lock would not engage, but I repaired it by polishing. There may be something out of tolerance that makes the blade bind. Its hard to know when mine is the only example I have tried. Others have posted that it took a lot of effort and technique, so I figured that mine was typical and attributed the poor performance to bad design. Even though I have found two very good replacements for the JYD II, I just love the shape and ruggedness of the knife. I would be very happy with one that opened easily. I am sending it to Kershaw. Maybe they will fix it or replace it with one that opens more easily.

Like the Viking told the Arab in the 13th Warrior, "Grow stronger." I can bench over 250 lbs and my hands are strong. Maybe I can kick that Kershaw dude's smart [censored], maybe not. I hope he is at the Blade Show. I would like to have a "discussion" with him in person. Should wear my helmet and bring my axe?
