I'm really getting annoyed with buyers, I have an ad up trying to move some stuff from an earlier hobby, I originally posted an item at $60+shipping (I payed over $100). About two weeks after I posted it I changed to OBO. I recently got an offer that was for $25 shipped. One of the upgrades I put in the item costs $26 new without shipping, I haven't really used the item much since I purchased it. This morning I bumped my thread, the guy who made me an offer said he took the money and bought a different item. I checked, the different item doesn't exist for the price he claimed.

Man I'm glad Dan doesn't let sales go on on these forums, it causes too much distress.

I have found that a lot of people like to low balln online just for kicks. Not because they are wanting to be disrespectful. It's more because they aren't thinking. People do A lot of stupid things when they feel they don't have to actually face the people they are doing it to. Well they actually do a lot of stupid things regardless but they feel it's okay to be more stupid when they dont have to actually face you.

I try to see a low ball offer as more of an opportunity than a problem. It's a hassle to deal with a ihaggler but the trick is in taking the haggle away from them or getting them to flat out decline and go away. I found by contacting the buyer and saying something like "I'm not into the whole haggling just to haggle thing and I know you are probably interested for a fair price and just doing because it's the thing to do." usually works. I let them know how common (and bogus) the practice of low ball offers is and how hard it makes the sell of items online. Then explain to them that I know they want a good deal and that I'm interested in giving them a good deal. that is of they can actually even want the item and can afford the deal I'm offering. I'm happy to do what I can to help them make a better deal out of the purchase but if they are lookin for the mega score they can brag to friend about then I'm sure they find it in time. This type of email is usually worth it for the $20-$100+ dollars they wanted to beat me out of. It may come down to shipping or the may say they are looking to spend "x-amount". I can take it or decline but at least I'm not sitting around thinking $20 is all I get for a SS4 or something.

Most guys contacting you to haggle reallly just want something to brag about I think.

"I just bought 800lbs of confetti for $10 shipped! Now I sit around throwing it over my head everytime I get to bring the value down on quality products and quality service!!!"

Interesting analysis Lazi. I just look at them as idiots. Most of them have zero capability of negotiating. Hit them with comps, or some other valuation model and they go along. Of course...this assumes your product is valued appropriately.

$20 for an SS4! Heck I'll give ya $35 on the spot! Sorry lasi. I know what you're saying. I have given a low bid before, but it was because I didn't know what I was doing and didn't really know the value of what I was bidding on. Once I found out a fair price for it, I reached my bid limit and it wasn't a low ball bid.

Ive been wanting to buy some knives off of forums, but like you guys are saying I dont want to go in lowballing someone making me seem like an [censored], when Im thinking is a fair price. So how do you guys go about judging whats fair? For example some of the discontinued SY knives.
