And another possible advantage is if you have any children in or approaching school age.

You told that you are a military man but you served in the air force? That confused me a bit. I thought you call the military those forces that we call the land forces and air force is air force. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
And may the Force be with you! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Here we use the term Military to refer to all branches of the United States Armed forces. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. This also includes the reserve and National Guard units of each individual Branch. The United States Coast Guard was at times I THINK (but I might be wrong) was used as well in some situations.

Again, different countries, different meanings. As a SIMPLE example, the back part of an automobile where you put your luggage or groceries when shopping we call a trunk. In the U.K. they call it a boot.

Ok. Thanks! We have a reserve military system. Basically everybody´s got to go and they make the reserve. Active officers are trainers/teachers and leaders, some of them work without training soldiers (border patrol, pilots,...). We have of course also reserve officers so the active officers will be the highest commanders? and reserve officers lower commanders? of course there are exceptions also.

Yes, active duty means just that. They are in the Active full time military. Not a reserve or guard only unit. It can get confusing even to someone that is used to the system, as the guard and National guard ALSO preform ACTIVE duty functions. USUALLY when that happens we say they "have been activated" meaning they are going to be used in a ACTIVE role not only as a reserve or support only function.

Oh and Timo, just to possibly confuse you even more, EACH branch of the Military, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines all fly aircraft!

For us, yes it is nice. But I feel sorry for others. After spending so many years overseas in the Military (3 years in the Philippines and 4 years in Japan), my last year overseas was in the Aleutian Islands. I know how difficult it is "making do" when you do not speak the native language. Hmm Aleutian Islands is where the Indian Tribe I descend from is called. Man I need to start reading up on my native history.

Steeley, when you look at a map of the Aleutians I spent a Year on Shemya Island. 2 miles wide and 4 miles long, 1500 miles from Mainland Alaska!
