I do pretty well with my Sharpmaker and a stone, plus a little sandpaper and a mousepad. May not be as scary sharp as the wheels can do, but it's as sharp as I've ever needed.

I wish I could find a side job that I could do with a broke foot right now. I could use the money since my Scrapivores will be ready, my Busse MUK will be ready, and I have a couple other Yard blades lined up. I doubt I will make it to blade, especially with the bills coming in for the foot and all. Reality bites. I wonder what Dan will be doing, sounds nice. I want a proxy for it, like now LOL.

I've learned how to use a wetstone lately. Still working on my technique, but I can get my knives shaving sharp in just a few minutes with it.

Yeah I never sharpen to a "Razor edge" any more. Just to fragile for me. I like a toothier longer lasting edge.

Ah, just get one of those carbid scrapers/sharpeners and go for it!

Have tried it, and don't like them.

I stopped at the meat department at the local grocery store one afternoon and talked to a guy there. He showed me how he sharpens his knives, and it really helped my sharpening.

That is good. I have a three stone set that is on a triangle block. I need to try to get better at it, and I have some old stones that were my Papa's. He was a master at getting an edge on steel.

I used my Bird Dog the other night to cut up a steak. My wife was amazed at the difference between it and using a steak knife.

It's not even shaving sharp, but the edge will last a while. Cut a steak nicely!

Todd, that was a great idea. We still have a few little meat markets around here, I may stop in and shoot the bull one day.

All I use any more is a Diamond hone, a 6 inch Smiths course (Yellow), a Spyderco medium (brown) ceramic and sometimes I will finish off a few strokes on a DMT folding hone just to smooth it out a touch.
