Reflecting on it now, I realized there weren't any adult male leaders.

I did more outside of scouting.

We had some great leaders. I still see a couple of them pretty regularly.

A lot of broken promises of camping and fishing trips.

For me, it was more akin to a couple of mothers stuck babysitting.

I was a loner, would rather have been hunting or fishing by myself.

Still am, for the most part.

That is a very big problem with the program today.. and has been a while...

Funny thing, I was a an adult training session and bemoaning the fact, and an older long time leader set me straight. Its our own fault (meaning the male of the species). I asked why, and he explained that it would surprise me to learn how many men did not participate in their own son's growth into a man. After 10 years of leadership in the BSA, he is dead on, and women do not want their sons to grow up and not be men, so they volunteer and do the best they can.

I was addicted to fishing.

I go out with my troop at least once a month... plus summer camp, and high adventure.

Just got back from camping weekend before last, got another in about 2 weeks. A canoe / camping outing.
