Oh yeah, much better off. Imagine, if you will, carrying around $10k of camera equipment that you purchased yourself in order to make $15 per photo. And each assignment would only result in one being printed, but 3-4 more being placed on the internet, but you don't get paid for that.

I haven't picked up a camera in over a month. I was burnt out badly. But now I can do the kind of work that I enjoy, even if I don't get paid for it.
