See MOK, you are already ahead of the ball game. You made a mistake and knew you did! Don't know if that means anything or not but it did give us another post! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I was in the AF for 20 years. As far as living conditions, and the way they treat their people (Unless it' changed since 1994) the services rank as:

1. Air Force
2. Navy
3. Army
4. Marines

I can't agree with this.

That ranking is accurate if you are only considering the living quarters, on base facilities etc etc.

But, "how they treat their people." You almost have it backwards. I have served in many purple (all branches in one unit) units, and there is no comparison. No branch, even foreign ones, have a stronger bond within the ranks than the United States Marine Corps. That is a fact. We take care of our own like no other. Of course that doesn't mean chow halls with bus boys or golf courses on base like the Air Force.

That's what I've been reading. That even though the Marines have the toughest job, they have the strongest brotherhood. This is essentially what I live for. Hard work and Strong Bonds

I just did a quick skimming, and I think you are looking at things in the right frame of mind.

Make sure it is something you want to do before you do it. If you do decide, talk with me before going to see a recruiter and before taking the ASVAB. If you have already taken it, that is OK. You can retake it, although it might not be necessary to get the job you want.

I will be happy to talk with you about options.

As for using the GI bill; The young people serving one enlistment then getting out and going to college is higher than it has ever been. This is due to the increased benefits of the Post 911 GI Bill. Hell, they give you food allowance and pay for your rent. If your rent is less than they give you, pocket the rest. It is also due to the newer generation being able to deal with a changing lifestyle better.

I do not, and never will recommend joining any branch, just to get away.

I agree with JJ. I have NEVER seen any branch with more of a feeling of "Family" than the Marines. I was talking about facilities, the rooming situation and messing facilities as that was usually the topic of conversation when Many of us from different branches were together. The Corps always seemed more of a Brotherhood than a Branch of the Military if you can understand what I mean.
