I read a bunch of articles about various bear animals attacks a while back. it's not something I'm ever really concerned about myself but it does make for some interesting reading.
One story I read really stood out and I tend to use it whenever I hear women questioning the roll of men in their lives.

just remembered there's a guy with a video on YouTube where a panicked looking deer runs being followed by a momma bear with her cub (or two). the guy is in the middle of nowhere and freaking out because he knows he really out of luck if the momma bear decides to lay into him. she just kinda looks at him a keeps on strolling.
I wonder how many people would freaked out and still been out there somewhere... can't say what I would've done myself.

my brother-in-law was attacked by a momma black bear in the late 1980's, he and his buddy killed it. They were both un-hurt, but it was within feet of them, when the CO came out to investigate he had to put down the 2 cubs because they were too young to survive on their own

running can be the worse thing to do, even if the bear has no interest in you and you suddenly run, it can trigger their predator response and they will attack

I know but when the way media portrays wild animals i would think it's hard to maintain yourself agent you realize you are in a starring contest with a bear. what I know would say stand still but at some point has to decide its working...
