NM is a beautiful place. My wife has family in phoenix and her brother said he would always tell his kids "check your shoes for scorpions" it always makes me laugh.

Heat/cold I figure just live with it no big deal, I'm 46 and whenever we talk about the heat I always bring up that I don't ever really remember the heat being some bothersome, we just played came home slept and repeat no big deal. Maybe air conditioners have us so spoiled that when it does get hot we just feel miserable. Agreed, AC makes me tired. People around hear tend to loose driving ability when the temp goes up, maybe its the humidity slowing the thought process <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> Air conditioning definitely has us spoiled. I work outside nearly everyday all summer and sometimes I don't think we could be any closer to the sun. I was working in the garge the other day at 105 F. and I thought it was awesome and my wife was falling over (she works inside all day).

Jason, I live at 4000 feet in the High Desert we get 10" of rain a year. The average humidity is 10% and all of our rain comes in a month (august). Sunsets go for hundreds of miles. The skies are baby blue with no clouds most of the year. We get two real hot months (July and August, 100+ F), and two real cold months mid December through mid February, 28+, in actuality probably a week or two below freezing). This last year was the coldest year in around forty years and this summer was the driest on record. But that is an oddity and last year was amazing.
You should check out the southwest there is a lot worse places to live. Just rub it on why don't ya <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> There are downsides too. I moved here from North Texas. My family farm had 7 tanks with 4 of them stocked. There were lakes every where. On the flip side here I have to drive 80 miles to get to closest real body of water. Granted the Rio Grande is probably 5 miles from my house but to quote an Australian gentleman I was working with "Jason, the Rio Grande looked alot bigger when John wayne road across it", The river is dang near dry all year because of irrigationa and it 3 inches deep in some parts. To go trout fishing I have to drive at least 2 hours. So we do have our limitations.

Knife Knut here is some light reading if you are a fisherman! in short this is the only fish native to this area (The Tularosa Basin is the next valley over). It live in Hyper Saline water (saltier than ocean water) and its only found in a couple springs and a river that jumps out of the Malpais (Lava Flows) and goes for 2.5 miles before it dissapears back in the desert). Not much to eat on these little guys they are barely minnows. http://www.wildlife.state.nm.us/education/wildlife_notes/documents/whitesandspupfish.pdf

New Mexico...hear there is good hunting there. Want to check out the NRA Whittington center and Raton area. The Caldera Hunts are supposed to be amazing. The game dept. here has tags for Audad, Ibex, Oryx, Desert and Mountain Bighorn all on public lands. Granted the Ibex tags are like one a year but it beats traveling to Africa to hunt one. Whites Sands area has over 3000 breeder Oryx, all from 29 pairs the game dept brought in in the 60's. Turns out if only an African Lion can kill it. Mountain lines get lucky but are usually no match for these 600 pound goats.
