And by the way, Marty, from the sounds of it, you'll be doing a job that has an impact on the world.

Take it from a man who worked in finance for several years. It was clever people like myself who worked for companies like I did who invented the Collateral Debt Obligation (CDO), essentially a product comprised of the lower tranches of sub-prime mortgage backed bonds. The CDOs were crafted so cleverly that the 3 big ratings agencies gave them AAA ratings. In reality, the CDOs were a house of cards, and barely anyone on Wall-Street could see that. How could they when they were making billions off trading the CDOs? I won't go into detail about it, but as a data analyst, I foresaw the crash and ultimate recession. Of course everyone else that doubted the profitability of the CDOs was deemed insane. Looking back, I could've taken my savings, started a company, try to convince investors I was right, and shorted the CDOs, making millions. Alas, the thought of making millions while the financial foundation of the world around me collapsed makes me sick.

Being a small cog in the machine that led to the recession the US and world is facing today still makes me feel like a pile of crap.

Now I work for half the pay doing something that actually affects the world we live in in a positive way. I sleep much better at night.

Sorry for the rant, all I was trying to get across was that it is admirable that you are choosing a profession that will have a positive impact on the world.

Dont worry about it. You worked in a difficult environment where greed and fear are the biggest motivation for people making stupid decision. Greed because they want more and fear of loosing any.

KN 1013, Yeah Jason is right. Many times the world looks upon the honest man as being weak, when actually they are the strong ones, because they DO remain true to themselves, to their beliefs, to the teaching that honesty is the best policy. You will be rewarded, but you will need patience, and possibly a lot of it.

BUT just hang in there, by being honest and dependable you will have MANY more individuals that will be on your side than you know, even if they don't always speak up.

If you find yourself becoming "overwhelmed" by your emotions, just go out and cut something down with one of your toys. Physical release many times brings mental satisfaction.

Ryan, to quote a famous movie scene, "You chose wisely" to get out of that situation and into a better one. We have all at one time or another done something that we wish we had not. The trick, one what you appear to have gotten right is to change and not get blinded by the that green and gold!

I know a lot of folks would and might call me crazy, but I would rather work for a third or half as much in a job I truly like, one where I didn't have to buy Tums by the case just to get through my workdays.

Marty, I like the pics of your friction folders you put up. Your friend should be proud of what you gave him. Nice looking knife and the filework you put on it just adds that touch of elegance without being to overly done.

Take care and again, best wishes in your new job!

Oh and in case I did not say so, I really like the blade shape of YOUR folder. The sheepsfoot and straight edge makes for a versatile cutting instrument and it is a lot safer when working around living flesh!
