I find that I can sell a gun easier than I can a knife.

Well, I did sell a (rather cheap) gun to get the XD9, but my problem is that I own far more knives than guns, so selling off knives, though not appealing, is my (unfortunate) best option.

Sweet M9 and XD9.

I'm a glock fan and always thought of trying out the XD9.

How does it compare to the Glock 9mm?

I used to own an XD45 Tactical, and all of my friends who have handguns own at least one Glock, so I've ran a few of them. IMO, they basically feel the same, the grip on the XD is more ergonomic to me, the grip angle was perfect, but everyone is different. It sat well in my hand, but I found that my XD was a tad wide for my mitts in .45. The 9mm and .40s have a smaller grip. My Stumpy fingers couldn't quite wrap the handgun properly and pull the trigger, lol. It would taste a lie to say I've had that complaint with a Glock. The specific XD I had got a hard workout right out of the box, other than a quick clean and lube, it ran the 250 rounds I had with nary a malfunction. The slides feel like they're easier to point than a Glock, which feels top heavy to me, probably because the slide width is cut down a hair. Price wise, they're a deal and a half over the glock, with all of the extras one gets with an XD. SA even has deals from time to time where they give away extra mags with the pistols. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one, and I will be picking up a micro for my EDC CCW soon-ish.

That was a tipping point for me. I was deciding between the new Ruger SR9 and the XD9. The Ruger was comfortable, but the fact that I now have 5 magazines for my XD at not extra cost was what made me lean toward that.

Always nice to have extra mags, and you can't beat free!

I've shot several XDs and own several Glocks. As has been said, everyone is different. However, the tipping point for me was that the Glock is a much more simple tool, with less parts and is more user serviceable (not that one should modify Glocks, but if there is a need to replace something it is easy, and cheap--I have not needed to do this yet, but I like knowing that I can). FOR ME, the Glock trigger is superior (with a more distinct reset) to that of the XD which feels TO ME a little soft. Also, high (regular) cap magazine are plentiful and the mags from my 19 will fit in my 26 as will the very prevalent 17 mags and crowd pleasing 18 (31 rnd) mags. the "extras" in the XD package are nice, but if you are going to CCW the gun, you will likely be buying a different holster anyway so most of the price discrepancy fades away quickly. That being said , the XD is a good gun, and I was a huge proponent of them a few years ago when they were in the $375-$400 range.

Good points. For me, this is not going to be a CCW. I live in California, where it's very difficult to get a CCW. It seems that I almost have to be attacked in order to be able to justify it to my Sheriff's department. That being said, I feel that I purchased the best gun I could afford. As for the Glocks, like I said, I haven't shot any, so I can't compare. I have found a couple sites that sell all sorts of XD parts, though. I think their increasing popularity is making for a growing aftermarket for these guns. If only I bought this XD when they were less expensive! Oh well. It seems to me that all firearms have gone up quite a bit in price in the last few years. Even my humble 10/22 cost more when I bought it over the summer than they had cost a year or two ago.

All in all, I'm happy with the purchase of the XD, as well as the M9! It's quite the knife! Given that it's probably the most expensive fixed blade that I own, it'll take some time before I use it.

Buying, selling, and trading guns and knives goes way back with me. Weapons are legal tender down here. I have had fences built and other work done for trade. Then there is the upgrading thing. While I have sold or traded off a few Scrappers and bought Busses, the DFLE would be the last one I would part with. As for pistols, I am partial to my often berated Beretta 92. I like my Sig P220 and my Kimber 1911, but I shoot very well with the Beretta and I like having 15 rd magazines. The only pistol I shoot better is my S&W 686+ revolver.

Vic, I agree on the DFLE being the last to go. 686+, is it a lock or no lock? I traded into a 581 a few weeks back and love the simplicity of the fixed sights--it might be replacing my Smith Model 27 for the woods gun.

I re-read my post and I'm sorry if I came across like I was knocking your purchase, that was definitely not my intent. I was trying to more respond to the other poster about the difference between the XD and the Glock. Anyway, I hear you on the whole "CA thing" as I am from HB and my wife's family lives about 30 mins south of you and I know how frustrating gun laws are out there. You SHOULD feel good about your XD purchase, it is a great gun and I apologize if I came across like I was saying otherwise, I'm sure it will serve you very well!

No worries. I didn't think you were knocking my purchase. I know that Glocks have been around for a while now and I'm sure they are fine tried and true firearms. I'm pretty sure I googled "Glock vs. XD9" when I was doing my research, and it seemed that most people said to buy what feels best. To each their own! As for the CCW out here, I've thought about applying sometime just to try, but I guess a 1 million dollar personal liability insurance policy is required, and I'm thinking that those aren't cheap.
