Just remember to send her a text message or call her before you come home late! It's certainly better than the alternative

I will add another vote for a structured training course. My wife "saw the light" after a few structured courses and really begain to appreciate why I do what I do.

Thanks for the additional input.
I don't like shooting full house loads out of the scandium frames either. The recoil of the .357 out of a light revolver would be a a foolish way to introduce the wife to handguns. It would take lots of practice to get rid of that flinch.
I cannot wait to start the course. I'd love to learn how to shoot in different situations and learn some drills that I could practice. Also, learning the philosophy of defensive shooting will be valuable too.

Kuonomar...what's the purpose of the firearm? Home Defense only...or does she plan to actually carry it?
The reason I ask is that I'm much more in favor of an AR system, setup with light / aimpoint. It's easy to use, enables more control, points well, and 5.56 can do much more than a pistol load. Food for thought.

Ishi, I do agree for a hd rifle/carbine that the AR is a good choice. However, collateral damage is greatly increased with a carbine in the house not to mention wall penetration and so on. On that thought maybe one of the pistol caliber carbines would be a good thing.

That LCR looks interesting. I'm looking for a new carry/pocket gun that I will be more likely to actually carry. I have an SP 101 in 357 and an old Ruger 9mm but I find them mostly to big to want to carry most of the time. I kind of liked that Sig 380 but not sure if I want to go the 380 route.

Huh, I thought you were looking to trade your wife for a new gun.
Just make sure you teach her to look before she shoots. It would be bad to be shot by your own wife because she didn't know you were home. EXACTLY what I thought. I was going to " try" to trade my wife for a knife........but .......hell I would take a gun.

The revolver would be for home defense and for carry. She is applying for her CWP.
I have various other firearms that can be used for home defense (remington 870, AR platform, other revolvers and so on). But, I wanted to start with a simple firearm and add layers as time progresses. I want her to be able to know one gun well. Much (not all) of the philosophies of home defense should transfer well to the other firearms when the time comes.

That way if muscle memory (if there is such a thing) fails her with a rifle or shotgun, she'll have the fallback of knowing one weapon well, even if in some situations it might be less than ideal. I'd rather have a .22 that I can shoot quickly and accurately than an 8 gauge shotgun that I can't handle well any day.

Sometimes, unfortunately it takes a scare to open a spouses eyes to the reality of the need for a firearm. I'm glad it was a false alarm in this instance Omar. And glad that you're taking the course with her. She should be more relaxed & enjoy it with you there too. +1 for the LCP also.
