Hi there. I'm new to the forum and SY Knives. I bought a new SOD off an equipment exchange and I got it a few days ago. The SOD will make the perfect camp knife for me and I love the knife very much. I also love the handle and how warm it feels when it's -40 outside.

I do have my flame proof undies on but here goes.

I wasn't at all happy with the edge on the knife. It was off center and uneven. It also wasn't sharp at all but it did chop 2x4 not to bad. So I went and bought some sand paper and 5 hours later I'm done. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. I'm also patiently waiting for the CG Scrapivore which will be the perfect companion for this knife.

Edge was too obtuse imo so I thinned it out a bit.

This is after destroying a 2x4 and yes my legs are white. Canadian and all. I have no more armhair left.

Yes it's sharp.

My hair under microscope.

Very happy with it now. David Brown is making me a sheath which I'm looking forward to.

Thanks for looking.

Welcome to the Yard! Nice sharpening job there. It's funny how we can think a knife is sharp until we see what "sharp" really is!

I've never checked my SOD's edge that closely, but then again I've never carried it very much either. And I do have some sheets of sandpaper at home too....hmmm.....

What grits are you using to get to that finished edge?

Whelen Nut's attention to detail scares me. Sand papering to a perfect edge. Macro silhouette pics to show the edge profile. Then, a freaking mocroscope pic of the hair he shaved with the anally retentive born edge ...

Welcome to the yard, Whelen Nut.

Where you a drill instructor in the a previous life?

Welcome to the yard, Whelen Nut. I hope nobody ever looks that closely at any of my edges! Nice job, BTW.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Whelen Nut, welcome to the Yard! You've found a great place to hang out now that you've discovered the world's greatest steel!

Congrats on the SOD! You've selected an outstanding knife for camping. We have a couple of them, but I can assure you - my attention to edge detail is woefully lacking compared to yours!!!!

Settle in and stay a while.

Thank you for the warm welcome and kind comments.

To answer some of the questions that have come up.

1. I'm in frosty Manitoba
2. I used automotive sandpaper in 220 for the rough work and then 1000 for the fine stuff and then I stropped it on black compound and white compound.
3. Yes I am OCD about some things, guns and knives and reloading are at the top of that list.
4. As a matter of fact I was in the army from 99-06 and I taught quite a few recruits how to be soldiers. They ALWAYS hated when I came for inspection because they knew they wouldn't pass when I checked their weapons.

Thanks again.
