Ok, you are wanting to get a "Last resort" hard use folder for your BOB/Pack Murse etc. It will be the ONLY knife you will be able to have as a smaller blade. It will of course hopefully be an augment to a larger knife, not the only one you have but you are going to treat the decision as if it IS the only knife you've got. Remember that you WILL be abusing this blade to the breaking point almost everyday. Yeah I know, but it will be a case of use what you got.

So what blade will it be, for UNDER $150.00 AND explain why.

As for Me, It would probably be my Emerson CQC7a or My CR Umnamzaan(uncle UM)
(yes, over 150 but I already have it).

I listed these two as the toughest I think blades I have. Mainly because I have them and wouldn't have to buy anything else. So IF you already have one and it's over 150, if it meets your criteria, list it.

I could also add my original Ontario/RAT Mod 1 folder but the other two might be stronger.

Another contender is my Benchmade VEX, a Chinese made $40-$50 dollar knife that I have had FANTASTIC results with and is also built "Ford" tough.

well, going by ones I have, it would be the ZT551 ( A little over 150, but), after that would be my Kershaw Volt, JYD comp, or ZT200

Well it would have been my Hossum Retribution, but it is now at the bottom of the sea. Long story.

Randy,

This is a great thread idea. Everyone is clamouring for a Yard Folder (which is unlikely) so question is perfect - what OTHER hard use folders (in Bussekin price ranges) do the dogs recommend.

Your thread will be helpful to me, because I'm very inexperienced with "good" folders! I'll have to google 90% of what people recommend, but hopefully I'll find something that I "can't live without".

On Topic - the only folder I currently carry is a Spyderco Delica4. This knife is NOT something I would consider built for hard-use. Its fine for cutting open packages, and similar, but it isn't constructed for TEOTWAWKI use!

Tom - Can you be a little more specific? I'm assuming your CS Voyager was a turd?

HD - That sounds like an interesting story....

As a side, the toughest folder I've owned was a Buck 110. If I can find it (might have given that one away) - I'll post a pic. Its pretty obvious this thing has been through hell.

I have wanted a retribution for a while now. I ended up finding scrapyard and Busse right around the time I was ready to pull the trigger. looks like a nice heavy duty folder. and I love a recurve....

i managed to pick up a few ontario xm18's off eBay all for under $60 each. on top of it being a steal at that price they are extremely heavy duty built knives. I'd have to grab that one to fit this scenario. overbuilt is the word for those...felt like I could take it to a cinder block wall if I needed to. I ended up giving one of mine to my dad who put it away because it was too big and heavy for pocket carry. He ended up with my Kershaw blur later but still has it. I gave my other one to a cousin who thinks somebody lifted it from him. for the size it was actually pretty comfortable to wear everyday. I dont know about the steel but I didn't baby them when I had them and I was really impress with how the held up. the knife came super sharp and was really well built and finished. Im pretty sure i would have been impressed even with the $150 price tag.

For what I have now it would be my new paramilitary 2. Toughest folder I have at the moment. I do have an itch for a manix 2, so that could change things!

I only have 2 folders that I'd consider for hard use. One is a Shrade Bearpaw and the other is a Puma Game Warden. I think the Puma would stand up better under hard use than the Shrade.

This is the Cold Steel Rajah 2.
I know there a load of Lynn Thompson haters out there so don't jump me for this choice.

I have seen this do incredible things. This is large enough to kill a animal, skin and gut it,make holes in the ground for a fire.
As well as prying, well everything a folding knife should do and the transition into the realm of fixed blade knives.

At $75.00 I could use the extra money from Randy and buy canned food for the Armageddon.
