Did she sshow you how to open the HEST properly?

J/K HD!!

She looks pretty nice!

The lady and the blade

She actually preferred the Izula II. She had some difficulty opening the HEST folder one handed, but this one is much easier to open than the one I had.

I would want a multitool with me for a SHTF scenario. The Charge TTi seems like a a great choice and can be had for less than a $100 if you hunt for it. I would have more than enough left over from the $150 SH is sending us all to buy the extra bit set and have just about all standard size fasteners/screws covered and be able to pick up a sharpener.

I understand a Leatherman isn't something you would baton or anything, but I like the idea of having so much versatility in my pocket.

It is a pain and bad for a blade to be used to open a can of beans. Sharpening an axe with a regular folder is all but impossible. I could go on, but I think you get my point.

I carry a Leatherman daily and use the pliers all the time. The screw driver gets used on occasion as well. I virtually never leave home without it.

I think you are right. A leatherman or SAK has more utility than any of these one blade folders.

Tom, thanks for the clarification.

HD, congrat's on the new assistant <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

All, I still think I'm just a fixed blade sort of fellow. The thought of spending $150 +/- on a folder sort of bothers me. I don't mind spending $150-200 on a fixed blade and then having to spend more on a sheath...but...folders just seem "weak sauce" (a "hip" term I recently heard used to describe something that is lacking or otherwise somewhat undesirable).

How's the liner on the 350? I was using my Kershaw Rake all week and while the ergos are real nice, the thin liner has me down on liner locks for the moment. light smack to the spine and it disengages everytime.

Very thick and rock solid. I'll try and get a picture later.

Hi,

Zero tolerance knives are really good knives, the liners locks from ZT is quite good. I own a ZT O300, and he has a very nice handle, when the knife is open, it give you an impression of thoughness and strengh, the blade and the handle become one. But the S30V Steel used by ZT, is very brittle compared to SR101 or Infi from Scrapyard knives, it made a little weak. The blade lost easily her sharp. I've never tested EMerson, are they good folder?

Raz, I think Emersons are good, I have two of them. They have or at least had 154cm blades and titanium liners with G10 handles. I've never had any problems with mine, a CQC7A (carried daily for about 4 years) and a Combat Karambit I just got about a month or so a go. No, the K-bit is not a knife as you would use for "OUT THERE" but you would be surprised by it's utility. If I am not mistaken it was first an Indonesian Utility knife.

But they have what we call a chisel grind, almost perfectly flat on one side and a regular looking grind on the other. Looks strange but actually isn't that difficult to sharpen and they do hold a pretty good edge and mine has survived some prying with no harm, harder prying than you would normally subject a sturdy slip joint to.

Tom, I also agree. But I just had the thought that IF something happened a lot of us would only have a folder on us. Which one would it be. Fixed blade, Oh man that WOULD be rough. But I think would have to say my S5 or the SOD for size limitations and POSSIBLY easier to handle than the DF for "delicate" tasks.

Hum, had to read my original post. AS AN AUGMENT. Ok that would be the DF for sure, then the S5 or Muppy would work out just fine. Probably the Muppy.
