I think I'm going to sell my .17...
I've got a Ruger 10/22 and a Buckmark Browning as well. The .17 funds would likely go to another .22.

I really love my .17 HMR. I wish I had gotten one of the 10/22 Mags that were converted over to .17 HMR, but I think that ship has sailed.

I had one that I converted to a .17hmr. I liked it, but had to let it go for funds. If I ever go for another semi-auto .17hmr, it will be a christensen arms upper.

I really love my .17 HMR. I wish I had gotten one of the 10/22 Mags that were converted over to .17 HMR, but I think that ship has sailed. the company magnum research was making rifles and pistols based on the 10/22 in .17hmr and .22 magnum. looks like they did a recall on some of the ones in .17 though. I've been seeing for a some months now that semi autos in .17 may have some issues. i recall seeing somewhere that .17 was just not intended to be fired from semi auto firearms and the design of the round doesn't support it. there is also another company called excel arms (excelarms.com) making semi autos in .22, .17, and 5.7x28. interesting stuff... keltec may be bringing out a rifle in .22 magnum that is based on their PMR30. I would like to get my hands on one of those when they are released.

Started huntin' cottontails and ground squirrels with a slingshot before bows and guns. Actually became pretty accurate with it out to 50 feet or so. With the ball bearing ammo I used, it was deadly! I used to pack a slingshot with me while deer hunting. It worked deadly on grouse and didn't ruin the deer hunting.

Does anyone know how to make a quality slingshot, given a SHTF scenario? I think it would make a great tool to have.

Does anyone know how to make a quality slingshot, given a SHTF scenario? I think it would make a great tool to have. Me and my dad made a sling out of some kite string and the leather patch off the back of some old jeans when I was young. Pretty simple to do. Just attach a couple of 2-4 foot pieces of string to both sides of the leather patch or anything else you can use to hold the ammo. Put a small loop on the end of one fo the strings to loop around your wrist or thumb and you are ready to go. Takes more practice to get the aiming down, but after a few hours of fiddling with it, My and dad were able to knock Campbell cans over from about 20 yards. Left a sizable dent in them too. Definitely take out a squirrel, but you'd need to be farther away I expect. Not too many squirrels are going to stick around once you start swinging that thing around.

Grab a y shaped branch and whittle it down until you can fit a couple of pieces of surgical tubing around the ends tightly, then attach a leather pouch to the loose ends of the surgical tubing. The tubing will tighten as tension is placed on the bands, so you shouldn't have to worry about the tubing slipping unless it was way too loose of a fit to begin with. should work well enough, did for me when I was a kid.

Whenever I get a chance I think im going to pickup a few feet of surgical. I tend to make all sorts of gadgets and it seems this stuff has plenty of uses. I'm making a point now to keep an eye out for anything that has the potential to become a slingshot. I noticed I some old leather belts and couple boots out in storage that would make for good pouches. oh and you can find bags of marbles at dollar stores. could have a vase full of those sitting by the front door and nobody would even know that it's really just ammo. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
and digging around I came across a cool old .22. a old Remington 550-1. i think the models is ~60 years old. it's a tube fed .22lr semi auto. seems like a very solid rifle. hope I get a chance to shoot it some soon.
