Ish, Ever shot a Swiss K31? Toggle action kinda like this, but in 7.5mm. Very nice old guns, and up until recently could get them cheap!

My favorite 22 is an old Ranger 22 bolt action repeater that I got from an uncle. It probably about 100 years old now.
No scope or bipod, just a simple kids gun

Started huntin' cottontails and ground squirrels with a slingshot before bows and guns. Actually became pretty accurate with it out to 50 feet or so. With the ball bearing ammo I used, it was deadly!
I'll have to find that thing and fire it up again. I'm sure the surgical tubing is rotted by now. Boy does this bring back memories.

Haven't hunted in a couple years but for small game I would use my Savage O/U 17HMR/12ga. For some reason I prefer small game and bird hunting over large game, pheasant in particular.

Great thread, thanks. Fred

Fred, you just brought back some great memories of my childhood wrist rocket. I too have many confirmed kills with the thing. It was always nice when I broke down and bought some bearing ammo to shoot at the critters, but I bagged a few with just rocks.
I want to dig mine out when I get back to the U.S. and see if I can still hit something with it.

I have a Savage .17 HMR and a Ruger 10/22 for my rifles, and a Ruger MkII Slabside Target Model for my smallbore pistol. I'd like to have a lighter rimfire pistol so I could carry it fishing and such, the MkII I have is just too heavy for extended carry.

.22 rifles are awesomely fun. They are cheap to shoot and are perfect for small games .
I have a 10/22 that I put some nice plastic stock on and a bear mt. barrel. shoots better than me . I'm going to see if I can snap a few pics later.

Very light a fairly accurate but not as accurate as your Ruger. A few years ago I bought a barrel for the P22 in 17H2. Sweet little set up, just wish it was more accurate. | | |

My brother has a Walter. It's ok, but not what I want. Looking for an old S&W 622 auto, or maybe a 617 revolver. Maybe even a Ruger Single Six Convertible, .22 and .22mag in one package.

HA! Brings back many memories! some that were quite costly . Learned the hard way to watch my backstop, long before I got my hands on a .22
