Danner RAT is the best boot I have ever owned. They are full grain leather and have a polyurethane coat over the toe and heel. They also come in steel toe. Two added bonuses: They are recraftable (made to be easily resoled or repaired) and they are made in the USA.

Oh yeah. They have a sweet Eagle Globe and Anchor on the heel too. You can get the civilian version without the EGA,

+1 Best boots I've ever worn. They are sooo comfortable! I was lucky to get a pair for cheap before they released the production version. They're good looking too. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

ellow these Danner rat's look like they can take some extreme conditions...

Would love to test those on a hike... But I am afraid if I order these online that they won't fit ...

@imaginefj : I wear lowa trekking boots (lowa traverse GTX mid )daily and for the extremer conditions when I go on a real hike I wear the Lowa combat GTX boot(I am from Belgium and we have some pretty rough terrian: think of battle of the bulge). They are verry comfortable on the feets they give much support and are wanted by millitary forces. also they have vibram en gore-tex.

Those are darn nice boots! Think they are worth the price? I can buy a new Glock for what they cost...

they are verry comfortable, in my experience they are great !!!

All weather proof they give your joints much support (they are pretty high).
I bought them afther I got the advise from a Belgium red barret (Para-commando= a crossing between a green beret , airborne ranger and a marine... we don't have that much different units over here as in the US.) He told me that the lowa combat GTX one of the most wanted boots is under the millitary personel in Europe. German gear is always verry durable. Brands like: berghaus, lowa, meindl,Tasmanian tiger(for clothing, backpacks, tactical gear)... are
pretty wanted .

But I got the idea once you tried Lowa you don't want anything else.
I was on a military market/show and came across the lowa elite dessert. tried them on and they were a perfect fit! and they are better for hotter weather.

And for the price those were offered I couldn't let them go....

also meindl is probally the brand that is as good as the Lowa's.

Gun laws over here (belgium) are messed up, and much to expensive.....

If I was you I search a lowa dealer and go try a pair of those boots. Only one way to find the boot for your needs and thats try some on and go on a hike your feet will tell you if they are the good choice....
