Hey PoP,

Welcome to the area! You sure picked one hell of a time to move here - the summers are long and hot and humid and miserable. However, I think you picked the sweetspot in the metroplex to establish camp. Places of note for you. Cabela's just opened a new store in Allen about 5-10 min north of Plano. Also Cheaper Than Dirt has a retail store in McKinney about 15-20 min north of Plano.

IMHO this is one thing that is great about TX. Might not be your cup of tea (marriage, religion, etc) but it is right up my alley. URL looks dangerous but it is safe. I see folks bringing their families to these places all the time:

Let me know if you're interested in checking out Bone Daddy's one day and we'll get some lunch - the BBQ (and scenery) is quite good.

Spock, The Bone Daddy looks like a well lit multi story meat restaurant. Sounds good. Looks better. I'm always up for food. I'll P.M. you when I get to town!

My sister lives there for years now. She says Air Conditioning was invented in Texas.

Everywhere you go except outside is cool and comfortable. When too hot,no one goes out unless they have to. Sounds sensible to me.

Peace.

Texas is for folk that can't afford California. :P
Yeah, I was born and raised in California and now look where I live. I will say that the politics in California had more to do with me moving than the cost of living.

Folks down where I live think that if you're from anywhere north of I-10 then you're just a darn yankee. My co-workers think that since I'm from California then I must live a "certain lifestyle". They really are a proud bunch, and this place really is easy to get used to.

You have GOT to eat at Uncle Julio's (sp?) in Ft Worth. Best Tex/Mex I have found. I drive up there (from SE Texas) once a year just to eat.....well, Bass pro helps also :-)
