I just got done to listening to some Thin Lizzy (Live and Dangerous as well as Live Life) Iron Maiden really owes a LOT to them. "The Warrior" "Holy War" and "Sha-la-la" really reveal Steve Harris' inspiration drawn from Lizzy.

KnotSlip what kind of setup do you have for music listening?
I have now a Jungson JA-88D stereo amp, E-sound E5-m cd-player and DIY broad band loudspeakers (Pencil 12).

I listen mostly to alternative, classic rock, hard rock and metal, with metal being my favorite category, although my favorite band, Primus is not metal. Some of the other bands I like a lot are Slipknot, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Korn, Megadeth, Metalicca, Mudvayne, Pantera, Pink Floyd and Queens of the Stone Age to name a few. I will listen occasionally to music in genre not mentioned above, but for the most part those are the categories that I listen to.

I have now a Jungson JA-88D stereo amp, E-sound E5-m cd-player and DIY broad band loudspeakers (Pencil 12). Well, I am always in continuous upgrade mode. I'm currently doing some upgrades. Right now my Audio and Home theater systems are the same system. It still functions really well for both so I am happy but I should be happier after the upgrades. Current systems and upgrades mentioned where applicable. Speakers are all Spendor. S5e's for the front with matching center and rears. Current sub is a Velodyne HGS12 - Upgrading to the Velodyne DD-18+ Turn table is a Music Hall MMF 5.1 Pre-amp is an Acurus Act-3 with DAC and bass mgmt. upgrades - Upgrading to an Anthem Statement D2V Amp is a 2 ch Adcom 5802 "Audiophile Class B component" - upgrading to ??? Undecided possibly the Anthem MCA 50 5 ch. Blu-Ray - Sony PS3 - plan to upgrade to a dedicated BR player soon. DVD - Sony S9000 ES And lots of money in cables and other accessories.

You guys ain't got no stereo systems, here's mine!
Nakamichi 125 watt receiver, Nakamichi cassette deck, Akai three head Cassette deck, polk audio speakers (5 in each cabinet, with a cross over cable, meaning one speaker on the right plays left music and vice versa)oh and a Techniques turn table.
Now THAT's a Stereo system!;)
Haha, at least it was pretty nice when I bought it in Japan back in 1988.

I remember the NakamiI also have an older Techique turntable. I just don't use it anymore. I also have a full set of polk Audio speakers minus a center channel which I sold to a friend. That was part of an old system back when i lived in an apartment and was a new grad.
All decent stuff though. The law of diminishing returns is strong in audio equipment.

Even now when I decide I want to listen to something it still sounds nice to my untrained ears. And I was single then so had money to blow. I DO remember the speakers cost me $800.00 for the pair in the base exchange back then. Oh I also got a Nakamichi CD player. All in all I think I paid about $4K for it, but it could have been 3. I've slept since then so I don't remember.

Skunk Nakamichi should be a proper device. I really don't understand the purpose of mixing the channels!?

Mixing the channels, you could be setting more off center and still hear the other side playing in a more balanced manner. Matter of fact if you sat right in front of one speaker very close you could hear both sides playing, although the opposite side channel was not very loud, just enough to hear, faintly.

Well, Skunk in my opinion that´s not stereo. That´s quadrio! Would be interesting to hear your system. Maybe that day when I smuggle the grilled salmon to Missouri.
