That is so true about hobbies. And WHY do they have to get so expensive!

Like music. I have around 300 CD's and I shudder to think how much I have paid for those.

And If we start talking audiio gear I get into recording studio gear pretty heavy myself. Multitracking, studio monitors, microphones, etc... I had a few (yes a few) studio grade 5.1 setups a few years ago that never made it of the boxes. Didn't have time or the facility to actually fire things up. Now I'm down to one setup that I still have yet to actually hook up after 3-4 years. Since I really havent been doing the studio thing it is on my "one day" list...

Here is a picture I took with my SS4 i took a while back. There's two $100(e) audio cables in that picture somewhere. The other cables are about half what those cost. The other couple pieces you see are my 1-bit DSD recorders. Supposed to be about the highest quality recording you can get righ now. My type of gear!

[Linked Image from i774.photobucket.com]

So I do get way deep into the gear! I used to sell and provide some tech support for a $10K keyboard called the Korg Oasys. One of my highlights is taking the keyboard to a studio in NO for Herbie Hancok to use on a performance. While there I meet Fats Domino and a handful of other Jazz legends. The performance was insane and I got to talk shop for a few minutes with Herbie Hancock!! I was so excited I completely forot to grab my box set and CD's to get his autograph. I did get it on something though.

Not so much into recording as I was years ago. I actuay stopped listening to as much music 6 or 7 years ago and I stopped keeping up with artists probably 10 years ago. Now I prefer to listen to instrumentals and random radio stations. Every now and then I hear something that interests me but I'm more likely to wait to hear it again alter than actually buy the album.

Enough is enough. My friend suddenly stopped quitar playing and after a couple of years he said he can listen to music without constantly thinking how the music was played.

You can enjoy music in so many different ways. You don´t have to have expencive equipment but at least when men are envolved the music turns into an art of equipment.

But you do understand men buying knives in same blade lenghts and other features just for the minor differences in details or for the different brands?

Hobbies - you just can´t explain them with reason.

I get it 100% and I actually tried it on for size. Was just not my thing. I've never been into cover songs of any type either though. Well there's a handful of modern remakes I guess that have caught my attention.

But of course having multiple colors of the same knife makes way more since though...

I have almost always enjoyed instrumentals. It is hard for me actually hear the words on so many songs that I just concentrate on the actual music, not the words being sung.

You need Knives in different colors so you can color coordinate with your clothes!

Accessories make the man, just ask Steeley! And I might add that at least to me, the ORIGINAL version of a song (I'm talking about MY lifetime original) is the best, Almost all the time.

Most of the music I listen to is in English. So, I don´t listen to the words I listen the music. Some times I read the word if I don´t understand them even if I wanted to. Some times it happens that the song gets a completely different meaning after I read the words. The emotions and intuitions don´t match with the words.

I have always tended to avoid most music where I couldnt understand to vocals. I do enjoy some old foreign jazzy stuff sometimes. But most songs that I have heard over the last few years I think I would be fine just owning the instrumentals. My MP3 play is mostly old instrumentals and a year or so ago I put a collection of 80's greatest hits on there somewhere. I even bought a set of Motown Instrumentals some years ago. You can still hear the vocals bleed through a little but but is cool to hear the music alone. I actually might to go find those and toss them in the player some time soon.

As for the gear... I love high end gear but never will push that on anybody. I sold music gear for years and that helped me to afford a some nice things. I never left any of my customers to beleive they that the "had" to have expensive gear or spend a lot of money to find satisfaction in what they can achieve. So even though I dealt with a few audiophile guys I could just as easily talk for hours with a guy that only wanted to spend a few dollars (or nothing at all) to get something goings. I actually enjoyed helping people get good results for very little money just as much as I enjoyed putting together my own personal studio.

In fact if anybody here has any audio related questions I'm happy to talk. anything related to computer audio or audio recording would be what I'm best at. I may not know it all but I'm always happy help figure it put and learn with you!
