Hi everyone, I'm new here and I purchased my first Scrap yard blade not too long ago. It's an all black Scrapazachi. I'll be going camping this weekend up in the Sierra Nevada and look forward to using my new piece up in the mountains. I just have a couple questions.
What do you think is the best way to sharpen the blade? I know there's a coating and I'm not sure how that will affect things.
How should I properly store the blade when it's not in use? I heard about treating it with a tiny dab of oil.
Where can I purchase a sheath for the sword?
Thank you. P.S. this blade feels awesome in the hand and very solid. I already know it will be the first of many when it comes to purchasing Busse kin.
Edit: Yikes! Just saw the sticky up at the top. I'll read that for sure. However if anyone has any tips specifically for this model, feel free to share them =)

It is never a bad idea to clean your blades afther use and whipe some oil on it .. Like WD40,tuf cloth ...
For a sheath there are 2 options:
There are a few sheath makers in the yard and they make some art pieces They will come forward...
or you can start and make yourself one....
By the way : Welcome to the Yard !!!

There are many sheath makers who do great work -- Jeff Law ( Rainwalker) is first choice for a lot of folks in the yard, particularly if you want outstanding leather work. I've also gotten some nice Kydex sheaths from David Brown, and have heard nothing but good about Al Welke ( AZWELKE). Perhaps others will add to the list, but they come to mind immediately and are members of this forum.

I just got a scrapizashi not long ago. I bought a sheath from azwelke before I had the sword. It is well made and he ships promplty. However I suspect a problem with kydex sheaths is that the friction retention is just insufficient for such a heavy blade. If you turn the azwelke sheath upside down the scrapizashi will fall out. I think it's just an inherent downside to a friction kydex sheath. However if you strap it to a pack or something to take it camping you may watch your new sword go bouncing down a ravine. There may be some way to put a retention device on the azwelke sheath, I just have not had time to figure it out.
Rainwalker told me he would make a leather sheath for it, however that is not an inexpensive proposition. I made leather sheaths for my knives as a kid and they were crude affairs and still took a fair amount of time, I suspect something like a professional leather sheath from Rainwalker would take a lot of time to make and will cost accordingly.
Both seem like good guys from my limited dealings with them.
edit If nothing else you could get the kydex sheath and use something like 550 cord to retain the sword. It would not be instantly ready should the woods ninjas leap to the attack though
I had a bit of a panic a few minutes ago when my scrapizashi appeared to be missing. I feared the evil ninjas had removed it prior to striking but my wife assured me she put it in the closet when a guy was coming to give a quote to replace the windows. Doesn't everyone keep a sword next to the bed? Course my rifle, tomahawk, and a few other things were missing to

Welcome. I can agree with the above recommendations of sheath makers, I have them from all three and like them all but they are for nothing larger than a 7" blade. Be careful these blades be addictive

Welcome Kaveman. I'm thinking a large bench stone would be best for a long blade like the scizzy if you don't have a belt sander or paper wheels available.
Look into Renaissance Wax for rust prevention. Great stuff,it's non oily so there's no mess. I've been using the same little jar since I started buying Bussekin blades.(almost 2 years) You wipe it on & it dries instantly,so like I said,no mess. It's spendy, but worth it IMO.(Just like my knives )
SYKCO JYD#112 It's better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it.
