@ Marthinus ~ Thanks for the great post, brilliant pics and a detailed explination, it's really going to help me get this right.

It's one thing owning a great blade it's a completely different thing keeping it sharp... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Also I think being able to sharpen steel in the 'sticks' or on the fly is an important if not necessary skill.

For most cutting tasks, I'd say that SR101 (52100) is superior to SR77 (S7). But Busse's SR 77 holds an edge pretty well for a steel so tough. You just ain't gonna break a Dogfather. Busse has a heat treat that makes S7 hold an edge like good old 1095 cutlery steel....and it is way tougher.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I just placed an order on the Basic 6, so in a "short" while I will know how both INFI and Sr 101 performs, first hand. I have high expectations to all three kinds of steel, so my fingers are crossed, that the 711 will be Sr77.
If it performs like 1095, only tougher, it is awesome, cus 1095 is very good as it is! In my opinion...
