So today I got one of the KaBar Zombie killer line knives. Of course the first thing to do was go chop stuff up right!? ( Sorry no pics at this time someone dropped our camera ) So it came with a good factory edge, But I touched it up till I could push cut newspaper. The steal is SK5 for the record from my understanding that is a little less in quality than 1095. So I went and chopped on a 6x6 and a tree with a diameter of about 8-9 inches I would guess. It chops pretty well for a blade a little over 9 inches but it is very quick in the hand due to being 3/16th inches thick. Anyway after making maybe 70-80 chops it couldn't even shave hair. Now I was used to going out and beating my S5 to death and still being able to push cut paper sometimes newspaper still! So for me I realized that compared to the Kabar my S5 held an edge for about 5 times the chopping that the ZK does. Just felt like sharing this. I will do a 511 and ZK test off when I get the 511.

Yep. That's why I've sold off most of my other blades and replaced them with steel I know is far superior.

I have some customs that I will always turn to and may even add a few more, but if I am going to drop good hard-earned cash on a product, I want the best I can get. The cost difference--especially on the Yard or the Swamp stuff--ain't all that different than other quality brands. I just know I'm generally gonna get a superior steel out of it.

Ain't never looked back <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I thought the Zombie stuff was, if nothing else... interesting. And then I found out it was all Imported... I think I'll stick with Busse Kin! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Yep all imported <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />. But since it is high carbon steel it is getting turned into a tester for the PBC etchant/gun blueing mod and I am going to use a dremel tool to grind off the sub hilt is that is not comfortable to me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

SR101 takes and holds such and awesome edge. I love my HR Gen 2, S5, M6, and CT. My 511 is on its way.

SR101 makes life easy. Sharpen, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, strop, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, strop, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, beat, sharpen and repeat.

I cannot wait to get a 911. I have never had a big chopper in SR101. Should be sweet!

Thanks Steeley for the comparison test. My WD is still as sharp when received from
Sykco and this is after one canoe trip and other various activities and accidents <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />.

I have no problem with Ka-Bars, but I never expect Busse performance out of them. I swear, the SR101 steel seems to hold an edge forever. My Chopweiler just chops and chops and never seems to need sharpening.
