I know what this will start but I am surprised that no one is going to take their weiner dog hunting with them.
Dan Dan, make us an SS4 / 411-style LE. 1/8" CM154. I prefer a drop-point on a hunting knife!!

What? Look at the Scrap Muk. It's great skinner and in stainless, too. Truth is, any Scrapper would work, but it seems to me that the Muk, Weiner Dog, and Bird Dog would be ideal hunting knives.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

The Scrap Muk is unobtanium for most...they sell at Busse pricing For me, the Wiener and BD just don't point naturally. When I'm gutting an animal, I want the blade to function like an extension of my index finger. Someone might accidentally poke something they ain't supposed to if they use their Wiener

The Weiner Dog is a little pointy for me when it comes to dressing deer. It would be ok for small game, and I've cleaned many a fish with mine. But I do like a drop point for dressing deer and other large game.

The Mud Puppy is close. It just needs an extra inch, and half the thickness...while you're at it, take about 1/2" off the belly Getting close to an SS4 / 411 here.

Some traditional skinning knives have an upswept point. That's for when you're pulling the hide off. Not so great for gutting.

I forget that a lot of people use two knives...one for cleaning, the other for skinning. I've always grown up just using one blade. Gut the animal, skin it (usually within the hour...so mostly pulls off), and de-bone the meat....front shoulders, neck, backstrap, tenderloins, then the hams. I'd love a Scrapper that could take those roles. The SS4 is close, thickness being the only hindrance, and the 411 looks good as well...maybe it'll be 1/8" (hehe, who am i kidding). Some mentioned the Rodent Solution earlier. Blade profile is awesome...but still 3/16", so I'll take the SS4 over that...especially with the mudders

I used a Buck 110 for it all, from squirrels to wild hogs. But that's what all the Bubbas carried down here.

Yeah, I'm all for using my Muk when it comes time for skinning, but the Rodent Solution is the one most likely to be with me in the field. That, and the CPM154 Buck Vanguard I've got, the BG42 Buck Guthook, or the Gerber S30V Freeman--all have proved their worth to me on many, many deer. The RS looks like it was made to gut a deer. The HRLM may come out a time or two as well--curious to see how the depth of that blade impacts its functionality in the body cavity. I've got enough knives to choose from that I don't want to settle for "yeah it'll work" but go for "yes, this is perfect"

oh yeah, the mud puppy might also see some field time and I'm not sure how I left off the Hairy Carry

This is one more example that I must be a o.c.d. knife addict , for to spend so much time thinking about which knives to bring on a hunt. Glad I'm not alone. I believe I shall carry the MPLE on the weak side belt and have the RMD in the pack. This should serve any gutting chores or cutting tasks if I should have an unexpected overnight in the field. Back at camp will be the Scrapmuk and Hogmuk vieing for skinning duty. And if said buck is worthy, the Weiner Dog and Bird Dog will be compared in caping. Now to decide which handgun to wear.
