That was kind of the end of the innocence. It's like his death started the downward spiral.

I often wonder what it would be like to live in the 50's. Especially around here, small town America. There is a page on Facebook about Do You Remember Burke County, lots of pics from back then have been posted on it. Really makes you nostalgic.

Yeah looking back on things I think you were correct. Then again, JFK MIGHT have been the beginning of the downward spiral and his presidency was just an illusion that was perpetuated because of his popularity. I certainly don't know, I was only six years old in 1960, but I do remember his inauguration on TV.

Or at least it does me. Maybe the 50's had a different kind of trouble, but it seems ideal to me.

JFK was no angel, I think that's common knowledge. But he was a popular war hero, and people looked up to him.

Right or wrong, he was OUR president.

I Do know that Korea was going on at that time, and the cold war with Russia was in full swing. AND there was the Cuban Missile Crisis, when Kennedy almost got us into a war with Russia.

That they did. That's why I wondered if His Presidency might have been the biginning, but was overlooked or hidden because he WAS so popular.

Times were different then. Didn't matter if you were Republican or Democrat, once the dust settled the president was the president.

Now, on the other hand, once a person is in office the other side takes particular glee in picking apart their presidency. BHO and Clinton have made it really easy for the Republicans to do, but look at what the Democrats did to Bush II. The man couldn't win no matter how hard he tried or what he did.

I'm not saying W was perfect, not by a long shot. But he had the stones to do what he needed to do.

I've got to stop talking politics, I'm just getting wound up tighter and tighter.
