And the race started about 2 hours after a 12 hour mid shift and I had to ride two miles to get there! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Sounds like you were just asking for punishment. But I might could have done it earlier in my years. Just not now.

I was 36 at the time. I wasn't going to ride but the LtCol. I worked for told me I should since it was the first race on base like that that they ever had. So I guess this old fat redneck is down in the record books. Kinda nice I guess. Sorta like how I was in the first Air Force ROTC class they ever had at the State University I went to before I flunked out.

If a LtCol "suggests" you do something like that, is it still considered an order?

It wasn't an order in any sense of the word. We rode together and he just thought I would enjoy it. No pressure of any kind. I had actually told him that I was to tired and he didn't have any problem at all with that. He was one of the "Good ones".

He was the same guy that came into the duty section one day, looked at a Buck Sgt's (three stripes) Starched, razor creased shirt and then said "You're to neat". The LtCol. then threw his shirt in the floor, stomped all over it, picked it up and said "Now it looks more like mine"!

YUP, he was a good guy to work for. He was more interested on the folks that worked for him, and getting the job done correctly than he was in feathering his own hat. He is also the same guy that told me I couldn't wear my Marine "Cover" cap (someone had stolen my cap) even when he wore one (the Marine Corps symbol was covered by his Rank Insignia). He came into work one day though with a new cap and I asked him what happened, He just sort of looked at me sheepishly and said "Shut up Randy". He later told me that a full colonel had jumped him about it.
