Yeah these guys are all military so they were talking about some of your test areas. I have no doubt there could have been a little exageration on there part. Being a native Texan there was probably some exageration in what I was telling them.

But I tell you I had some Aussie friends visiting one time and they though El Paso was what Texas looks like and that the "Rio Grande looked bigger when John Wayne rode across it".

Really the only part of NM that looks like a desert in the movies is White Sands National Monument. Its where they filmed the desert scenes in Transformers 1. The rest of the [color:"red"] western deserts [/color] has so many different life zones its a little crazy.

We do have bases in semi-arid region such as around the town of Vernon
