I have been debating getting one since they were announced. I saw a guy at the range firing one a while back and couldn't help ask him if I could fire it. I felt rude, but he said he understood.
It had me a boom.

I don't want to spend more than $3000 and I want it to hit a man size target at 800 meters with the base gun and normal ball ammo. These two fit the description best What man?

Unless you are murdering, assassinating or at war, if your enemy is 800 meters away, your best bet is to avoid him/her. Which should be easy with that kind of distance unless you are in the middle of the Salt Flats.

Although I COULD trade off my Remington 700 VLS with the heavy 26 inch barrel.

I have put 10 out of 10 rounds on a echo target, size and shape of a man's torso, at 500 yards with a $900 AR-15. Not sure you need a $3,000 rifle to get your snipe on.

j wanted a dust up rifle that could hunt. iron sights just kept calling me so the m1a won inthe end but it was hard to pick a .308 rifle. couldn't stomach over 2K but thats ahoy where you start knowing you get a lot of rifle.
next .308 will probably be a bolt rifle under 1k. maybe 700SPS or VTR or maybe the Ruger GSR. Still just want a mag and iron sights for some reason.

I would avoid if possible but I also want to be able to take this gun hunting for deer coyote and other game and if it will hit a man at 800 meters than it will work for all those and be a shtf gun and since my family has 223 I wanted somthing to hunt and have more fire power

I now you can make a 223 ar-15 that will shoot far but I like the .308 knockdown power

Have you looked at the RFB. I took mine to the longest known distance range last week close to Salt Lake City, 350 yards. I was pulling off 12 inch groups standing within 100 rounds of the first time I fired it.
