Maybe I am suffering from sleep deprivation. Yeah that's it, I've been awake for 24 hours so I'm depraved!

Oh, speaking about big knives, I have a hand made leather SOD sheath that has taken on the nicest dark brown color. Better make that a MEDIUM brown color. It's still really nice looking no matter which one you want to call it.

I never did get around to making one like yours for myself; I ran out of that thick leather! I ended up using slightly thinner leather, but hey it works!

I used the SOD just the other day, chopped off some limbs on the dead Dogwood tree in the back yard.

I'm glad that it works for ya'! Although I run the risk of sounding sappy, SOME things mean a lot to me and will never leave my presence. Thank you.

I will be doing more sawing and chopping soon. I like to wait for cooler weather, when the ticks and chiggers aren't such a problem.

A couple years Dad went to a sawmill and got some cut off ends from crossties. I bet he still has enough of those things to last him another couple winters. You know how thick a railroad tie is, well they are about one and a half times that long. Once you get them on fire, they burn for a long time.

Any sizable trees that I cut up I keep for firewood, even though I don't have a fireplace or stove set up. For LONG TERM emergency, SHTF type scenarios, I have a cast iron boxwood ranch stove in my basement, along with the necessary items to safely vent it out my basement window. I DO believe in being prepared; hey, I WAS a Boy Scout!!!

Sometimes a wood fire is really nice. His wood stove is used to heat up his garage. It's a home made outfit, double walled 1/8 inch thick steel plate. It's about three feet deep, two high and about 18 inches wide. I bet that thing weighs over 500 pounds!
