The only close call I ever had while hunting was over 15 years ago on posted private property.

Turkey are pretty wary critters. I think they ahve better sight than we give them credit for. I also think that too much of any one color stands out even in grey scale.

We have so many turkeys here that they aren't even scared if they're around your house. I have about 25 that come through my front yard every day.

Now out in the woods, they are a little more wary, but I've still been plenty close enough to kill quite a few of them. Never have though....

Yes smell is a big one as well as sound.
I know colour is a big thing for ducks and geese though.
I hear the same about turkeys but I don't know much about them

I actually low crawled a rabbit today. He was a monster of a bunny and wouldn't let me within 50 yards until I low crawled up to it. I had flashbacks of Nam. I even yelled "die Charlie" after I popped him.

We've got a guy that hunts on the gamelands right at the edge of our property. He's been warned his last time about cutting across my place to get to the gamelands. He can literally see my front door from his stand, and wonders why I worry about him hunting there.

My wife won't even let the dogs out when he's in his stand, she's scared he'd shoot one of them.

I agree, I think breaking up the human form is important, around here the old hunters red checked jackets were worn by most old time hunters.

I usually wear jeans and a camo jacket as outerwear. Only reason I wear my camo jacket is because it's warm and comfy, and not worried if I get it bloody or muddy. I don't put a lot of stock in the camo stuff. I killed a nice 8 pointer last year wearing a black long sleeve t-shirt and blue jeans.

When I picked up the rabbit and walked over to my bike, I saw the farmer in his tractor watching me. I am pretty sure he saw the whole thing. I bet he regrets signing that permission card to hunt on his land. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

At the extreme end of that I chased down a rabbit and caught one when I was a kid. Big mistake.
