Just picked up my G21 Gen 4 today and squeezed a few hundred rounds through it this morning. I love it as expected. My Gunny came with me to the range just to get out of the office and play with my new toy (I know guns are not toys, but they sure are fun).

He showed me a carry clip online when we got back to work, the Skyline Carry Clip. Have any of you used or seen one of these before and what are your thoughts? I will probably order one after work today. There is another company making them, but the reviews say they rust/erode quite a bit. This one is about 5 buck more, but reviews are more positive.

Glocks are great but carrying (legally concealed or openly)
any loaded firearm with the trigger exposed is only asking for a negligent discharge (ND) with potentially devastating results.

I've CCW'd Glocks for 10+ years and still have ALL my body parts due in part to a quality holster which does not leave the trigger exposed.

Outside of competition, you won't find a holster maker worth their salt who design/produce/sell holsters (leather, kydex, whatever) that leave the trigger/trigger guard exposed (SA western rigs being the exception). There is also a lack of retention, also potentially dangerous.

I am not comfortable about having the trigger exposed while the business end of the gun is pointed at my favorite body part in condition 1.

But, if I carry it in condition 3, I wouldn't have any concerns. After an unplanned use of the firearm and "reholstering" hastily things get a little more dangerous though.

I think those clips are more "gimmicky" than anything else and was a bit surprised that Brownells was promoting them.
Of course, they are not in the "public safety" business, either.

I am glad I waited and let the initial coolness of it wear off, which took alll of a few hours.

I think I will go with a IWB leather holster and a old Blackhawk Yaqui Slide Holster I have been looking to put to use.

If you are shopping for a new IWB rig, I would recommend Fist's # 19 or #20...I have owned both (Glock 23 and 27) and they are VERY comfortable.

I've never tried their kydex offerings as their leatherwork is just too nice.

I'm a lefty and neither rig was in stock...they made them up quickly and I had them both within 2 weeks.

Truly a class act company and equal to some very expensive Kramer holsters I've owned. IMO, superior to any Galco and that is not a slur against Galco, just that I think the workmanship of FIST, Inc. is of a higher standard.

I generally back a Glock in a Safariland 703 or SLS type holster, good enough concealment, excellent retention and EASY reholster (which is almost as important as the draw).

I'm not a fan of any carry clip.

1. First people want to jam them down the fron of their pants. I have an issue with pointing a gun at my junk.

2. They aren't as secure as I want. I can tell you for a fact that if I need my psitol I'm not going to be stayig in one place and I want my pistol to be where I left it.

3. Pistols aren't built for comfort on your skin. It its uncomfortable to carry/wear it you won't. A holster secures your pistol and should make it more comfortable to carry especially IWB.

4. A good sweatshield is nice if you plan on carrying a pistol. It's the little things that make a difference when carrying concealed.

5. The clips have a limited use in my opinion, Not much use for the average joe but some people want what they want.

James, after seeing that, I am actually considering the clip again. I know everyone has told me it is a bad idea, but ... the main argument is that the trigger is still exposed while in my pants. I think the carry clip coupled with that minimalist holster, I get a carry system that is both minimal and safe. For about $40 for both items, I don't mind taking a gamble to see if they work well together.

ooooh combined now that is a good idea. The clip to keep the gun up, oriented, even a little retention, and the Zack to protect the trigger and if you felt even a little ambitious you could do the kydex your self and save the cost of the "holster"

Can you explain a little more about why you are thinking about any clip over an IWB holster?

A proper holster and belt do so much to increase the comfort, access, safety, and concealment. The major thing for me is pulling the gun's butt close to the body, which a clip can't do.

I wear a Kramer, but for something a little cheaper the Remora is a good low-cost comfortable option.

Because a G21 is a fat gun and I am a slim man, 5'10" at 145 lbs. I don't need anything (leather or kydex) making the weapon any thicker.

I must have tried 20 IWB holsters at the local gun shop, and the ones here in Utah are well stock with quality gear, and none concealed it better than the gun shoved inside my pants without a holster.

I understand the benefits of a quality holster, but they just aren't cutting it with this size of this handgun on my frame. I am determined to not sacrifice the caliber, barrel length or mag capacity to fix this, so I am looking at alternative routes.

The clip seemed like a good idea to add to the shoved down my pants method, but was lacking in the trigger coverage. The Zack Holster or MIC Holster (they are the same thing) is a solution to this.

As for comfort, I have carried my Glock all day, in condition 3, without any issues with it shoved down my pants.

If thats your concern you may want to check out the crossbreed holsters. They excel at concealment.

Have you considered a belly band? I'm not sure the brand, I think it was Galco, but there was a BB that was being manufactured that allowed you to use any holster you wanted to, IWB or OWB, by means of two velcro straps. A Belly band may be a good option for deep concealment, but depending on the type may not work the way youd like. IMO, certain things have to be sacrificed to conceal a pistol. If I'm working with a heavy winter coat and a nice long shirt, then I can make my 1911 disappear no problems, but in the middle of summer wearing shorts and a t-shirt, the same pistol is going to be a lot harder to conceal.

I have a glock 21 and 19 and mostly carry the 19. There is little difference btw 9mm and 45 with modern jhp

Welcome to the world of gun ownership. You will end up with a drawer full of holsters. Some useful, some not so much. What works for one does not work for all. Concealing a full size handgun is difficult. It is comforting, not comfortable to do so. I tried many holsters. Ended up with a Milt Sparks Versa Max. Not cheap, but I easily blew through $200 in other options before this one. It is still difficult to conceal based on my frame size and pistol choice.

The most comfortable (and fairly cheap) is the fanny pack. You look like an idiot but it is completely concealed and very comfortable. No worries about reaching for an item on the top shelf of a grocery store and exposing your rig to a less than understanding citizen. Major no no here in NY.

I am not sure if it was this thread or not, but like you fanny pack idea, I carry mine in a Monsoon backpack most of the time. I love the concealed compartment on it. Works great. Not the fastest draw, but works fine.

I will have to check out the Monsoon. I have a Maratac Extreme. I probably butched that spelling. It fits my laptop and electronics great. I love all the pockets. Especially the concealed one. Not the fastest draw. But nice. I wish I could remember who on these formus turned me on to them.

Well, I decided to get the clip and the Zack holster and have been carrying my Glock 21 in the small of my back IWB for a little more than a week. I have no complaints. It is comfortable, I forget it is there until I sit and my coworkers didn't realized I carried until I pulled it out last Friday during a "what is your favorite handgun" conversation.

Huh? How would the clip ding a cartridge? Do you mean while ejecting?

I don't think they touch it as they get ejected upward. If they do, they haven't caused any issues in about 350 rounds. Hell, I have put about 2,000 rounds through this Glock and it still hasn't had any issues. Can't wait for the 22 to get here and save me some money.

Yeah I was talking about when the brass was ejected. It just looked to me like the clip was possibly, at least partly above the bottom part of the ejection port on the slide.

It is about 2 mm above the bottom of the port. No issues yet though. I'd like to say I don't blink when it fires and I see that it doesn't touch, but ...

Whatever works. I like the trigger guard. Some of the KelTecs have pocket clips available. No trigger guard. Not the best idea in my opinion.

My wife and I routinely CCW a Ruger LCP with a KelTec "Pocket Clip" attached. Its a great way to carry a handgun if maximum concealment is the objective.

Regarding ND's....

I've had a handgun license for 19 years (have been carrying Glocks for 16 of those years), and have yet to accidentally discharge any firearm. The Glock's standard trigger is heavy enough to prevent this even if YOU are negligent and permit something to get in the TG.

A Glock's trigger is much like a honed DOA revolver's trigger...and they are safe.

JJ - if you decide to add a IWB holster to your clipped G21 then I 100% wholeheartedly recommend a Cross Breed Super Tuck.

I carry a Sig Sauer P220 SAO in one all the time. Must comfortable IWB holster I've owned. Makes my full size 45 disappear under minimal clothes. Very secure as well.

I have been looking at the Cross Breeds. With my new job I am in slacks and dress shirts. It is hard to conceal much.

The Crossbreed is amazing. However, you wont' be able to conceal without an untucked shirt or sport coat.

Does the clip fit over the holster well or do I need to take it off when I use the holster?

I'm 99.99% certain the clip will just "clip" over the kydex component of the holster. Its no thicker than your jeans.

Makes sense. I wasn't thinking. I actually put my clip over my jeans and my leather belt. So, yeah, it should fit fine.

That kydex trigger gaurd cover is slick! Is that a product on the market, or did you bend the kydex yourself?

It is Zack Holster. There is also one being made called the Raven Holster which is nearly identical. They both run about $20.

I was not completely satisfied with the Zack Holster and clip combination since it required me to take the light off my pistol every morning.

I leave my pistol on the night stand with the light attached when I sleep for obvious reasons.

The holster doesn't fit with the light attached. Solution? Make your own holster.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the holster supposed to attach to a belt loop so it will come off when you pull the gun out?

Yeah. Connect the S clip to a belt loop or the belt by wrapping the cord around the belt and clipping the ring to the cord itself. It pulls the holster off when you draw the weapon.

Thats really sweet, I do the same when I carry a neck knife in my pocket, I can see it working really well for this while at the same time protecting the trigger.

ive carried more sidearms than many people i know, some of which here in the mountains of RC East in afghanistan and NOTHING beats the Glock 17/19. it is THE SOLDIERS sidearm. IMO, it is the best sidearm you can buy. plain and simple!

You going to add/remove anything from it? I just added a few simple things like tritium sights, which I think should be standard on all handguns.

Definitely adding some high contrast tritium sights and a light of some sort.

Did you decide against a shotty and go with the 45 as a home defense option or is it a supplemental gun to the shotty?

Went with both. Decided to make the 12ga 870 a bird gun and get a 20ga 870 as a house gun. Just waiting for some knife sales funds to arrive so I can buy one.

Nice I am looking at a g22 the local shop can get the gen3 for 499. I also would like to get tritium sights and a light/ laser for home Defence. Surefire, streamlight, or insight are the brands I am looking at. Anyone have one or experience with these brands?
