any of their other knife handles with custom handles? I would LOVE to see some of the custom handle work yall have done on any of your knives.

I do alot of tinkering and have a garage in my kitchen (drill press, bandsaw etc, etc). My GF says that I need to get a hobby as I am irritable to much HAHAHA so I am actually gonna make a handle for 1 of my knives in highly figured claro walnut just to see how it comes out. There is something about claro walnut that just does something warm n fuzzy to me, the knife is not going to be a heavy use knife so I am not worried about the handle breaking. I love looking at other peoples work to give me inspiration and motivation.

I have and remember seeing a few other member's mods, but can't remember where they posted them. Here is a link to mine.

Thats awesome Brother, I love the cord work. I figured the tangs on the SYK's would be alot beefier. I know the tang on their webpage pic looks pretty durn solid. Thats interesting to see, i figured they would make all their tangs close to the same shape as shown on their webpage.

I think most of them are much wider, but I think Dan made this one slimmer so I could mod it into a bayonet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

At 8mm thickness, I still think this thing will stand up to whatever you through at it.

Don't let the tang shape fool you into thinking they are fragile. ALL Dan's blades has their "If you break it accidentally we'll replace it" policy unless THEY say otherwise.

Skunk, I was not thinking fragile, maybe more along the lines of if your chopping something the slimmer tang could cause more resonance and hand shock throughout the knife almost like a tuning fork. Plus the way the tang is prifiles while not 90deg angles could POSSIBLY leave room for stresses. I am VERY new to knives and I am learning as I am going, I am NOT questioning the workmanship in any way but this allows me to question and learn at the same time.

I don't look at the Reg as a chopper anyway, but the design of the tang also leaves more room for res-c material giving you more shock-buffer for any resonance if there is any.

Excellent point, I like the fact that the reg/de-reg as a 1/3" spine which would make it a great batoner just not a chopper

Don't modify the blade you hate to make it so it won't be under warranty

I wasn't really planning on it, I was just exploring the option. Would changing the res-c handle with a nice wood or g10 void the knife itself warranty?

That would be a question to email or pm Renee. I guess that it would cover it but then again you are changing the knife from factory specs.

Dan told me before I modded mine that it would void the warranty. I made it clear my mod wouldn't alter the metal. I hardheartedly agree with his stance as well.
