With the bad weather just around the corner it's sometimes nice to have a place you can escape the elements for a little time and have a hot drink. With that in mind I decided to begin work on a spot I recently found in my local forest.

I didn't spend too long today but already it's starting to take shape and offer some refuge~

Even though everywhere in the forest is already soaked you can see how dry the overhanging rock keeps this spot~

Took this pic from inside~

Doesn't Cody Lundin advise covering all your gear in yellow tape so you don't lose it, I'd like to see him find his knife around here !

I thought I'd try coating some jute in resin to see how this affects the burn time~

I'd left one end resin free to take a spark from my ferro-rod but as I showered the jute with sparks it was the coated end that caught ! It burnt for about 2 mins 30 seconds.

I didn't think that was too bad, plenty long enough to get other kindling to catch especially if it's some prime BC Fatwood !

One last pic, check out this little guy feasting on the fall fungi~

Howling Mutt hit the nail right on the head, I would be very happy to live by such a place.

I think Cody is more partial to Orange in his books, but bright colors in general.

Great pictures and thanks for sharing. I've always wanted to check that part of the country out. Very beautiful forest you have in your neck of the woods.
