Nope. Not at all.

Ex military seems to do really well here. Some new guys do ok without it, but you can really tell the ones that have the training.

Don't know about where you are, but around here, it's a LOT easier to get a Deputy than it is a Dispatcher or a jailer.

We get a few that are smart enough. They just don't have the heart. Many have never taken a punch and have no clue how they will react.

Recruiting has been interesting. A good dispatcher is worth their weight in gold here. But its more of a training issue than recruiting.

One thing that surprised me when I first started working here is that there is NO training program of any kind. I know a lot of it is "Off the Cuff" but a lot of the procedures, the way to at least get things started are the same.

We are big on formal training. Everywhere. Cuts the chaff from the wheat and turns out a much better employee.

Here, almost all jailers are deputies that have just been hired. First step is working in the jail. Dispatch is the tough job to get. Only 8 jobs in the county, and almost no turnover.

Very little formal training here either. Most would benefit from it though.
