I know they have at least one of the funny guys from Youtube on there. I really don't see the reason to make fun of people who are prepared for whatever comes their way.
Its mainstream now. After what happened with Hurricanes in the U.S. and then the combined issues of people and the Government during Katrina and what happened in India, Hati and Japan I think people are seeing that a little preparation can make a huge difference between suffering and riding out a bad situation.
The more people are prepared the less trouble there will really be. No reason for panic and looting if you have what you need at home. Or your can get on the road quickly.

My plan is to stay put. I've got plenty of ammo and a good field of fire. Fresh water nearby and plenty available to eat, both fresh meat and canned. I think I'll be fine.

I think sheltering in place is the best for nearly any situation. But I have had to evacuate my last hoem due to a wildfire. So I leave contingencies open for whatever may happen.

That would be about the only thing that would make me leave home. I've got some trees behind the house that need to come down and give me more of a buffer.
I've been working on them lately, but I've let them get a little big to handle by myself. So I have to wait til the boy is off school, like weekends and workdays.

Once I get them down and gone, I'd probably stay put even in a woods fire. Long as I've got a good buffer, I'd be ok.

I was on the edge of the hayman fire. I don't think a buffer would have made a difference. I had a healthy buffer but the smoke and heat from everything being on fire didn't spare much. There are places where nothing is growing because the ground was sterlized from the heat. It was an interesting thing to witness and see the after affects.

Fires are a little different around here than they are out there. Biggest fire I can remember was a little over 4,000 acres, but most are 10-20 acres at most. Unless they get into dead timber, they burn low and slow and are easily contained.

We keep a fire line cut around the place all the time, about a 50 ft wide buffer cut close with no tall grass or trees, and hardwoods around that so there's not much dead stuff laying around other than leaves.

I think the total for hayman was 138,000 acres. It was brutal. It was traveling and burning across the tree tops. Live trees.

We're watching The Big Redneck Vacation, or something like that. Actually, my partner is, I'm involved with the internet and Words With Friends on my phone.
