Hello gang,

I thought I would post up some comparison pics of the Scrapyard Scrapizashi, the Swamprat Waki, and the Swamprat Rucki.

Here are the specs of each.

Rodent Waki (G10) (SR101)….. = 33 oz; 0.195” thick; 17.0” blade; 27.625” oal
Rodent Waki (micarta) (SR101) = 31 oz; 0.195” thick; 17.0” blade; 27.625” oal
Rodent Rucki (SR101 58-60 RC) = 27 oz; 0.1875" thick; 15.25" blade; 23.25" oal

(SY) Scrapizashi (SR77) = 29.2 oz; .190” thick; 17.375” blade; 27.25” oal

Here is a group shot of all three, in order the Scrapizashi, the Waki, and the Rucki.

The handles are Micarta for the Waki and g10 on the Rucki and Cord wrap for the Scrapizashi. All are comfortable and durable. I was worried about the cord wrap but it has held up great with no signs of loosening or wear.

Here are all three handles

Here you can see the width of each handle

Now the pommel design on these are different. The Waki has a cool crescent on it as you can see here.

[Linked Image from i1110.photobucket.com]

The Scrapizashi has a rounded pommel here.

[Linked Image from i1110.photobucket.com]

As does the Rucki here

[Linked Image from i1110.photobucket.com]

The tips are very similar with subtle differences with the Rucki being slightly more drawn out.

The choils on each of these are very comfortable and usable.

Here is the choil from the Scrapizashi

[Linked Image from i1110.photobucket.com]

p.s. love the logo Dan!!!

The choil from the Waki

And the choil from the Rucki

They are pretty similar in thickness as well with the Waki being the thickest, next the Scrapizashi, and last is the Rucki.

A nice feature on the Scrapizashi is the rounded edges on the spine.

All in all I love them all.

Here are some thought on them. Just my opinion.

The Scrapizashi has great balance and feel. The rounded spine is nice and the pommel is great. If you do katas one technique is to push with the palm to increase penetration on a stab. The Waki's moon shape hurts the hand.

I would like to see micarta handles on the Scrapizashi, the cord wrap is nice but I like the solid feel of micarta. The only thing that would worry me is if this would throw off the great balance it has.

I would also get rid of the top guard. If I was going into sword battle I would want it but I like to rest my thumb along the spine.

The bottom guard is my favorite because there is no fear of your hand sliding on the blade.

The Waki has micarta handles and feels good. The blade is thicker but balances nicely. The guard is not as pronounced but still does the job. The longer handle is nice. The pommel Im not a huge fan of. The blade due to the thickness is alot stiffer than the Scrapizashi.

The Rucki, (which was loaned to me, thanks) is a nice little sword. It incorporates some of the best from both of the larger ones. It has g10 scales, great balance, no top guard, and rounded pommel. The tip is very pointy almost armor piercing.

The handle is shorter as is the blade but if you use the choil you can get a decent two handed grip on it.

All in all they are great swords. For me I like the larger ones but I can see the following of the rucki, kind of a fantasy machete for big kids

The only one I have used has been the Scrapizashi, I carved the family dinner with it a couple of times, cut watermelon, and some of you might remember accidently destroyed our ceiling light fixture, while attempting the watermelon cut!! ([color:"red"] need taller ceilings [/color]

I hope you enjoy the comparisons I do, I know they have helped me when trying to decide on a new blade. They can be time consuming to do but if you guys like them I will continue to post em.

Take care

Sar

Thanks for the pics and review!

I have the Scizzy and the Rucki and I like the Rucki best

1) It fits in my BOB
2) Faster in the hand for me
3) The tip rules

I think Jroden was supposed to change the handle on his scizzy, I never saw the pictures but you can ask if the balance had changed.

Now I want the Scrap-a-rucki

I agree, I've often wondered how they compared to each other.

A lot of people are using the rucki for a heavy machete. The same with the two larger swords.

They definitely fall into a specialized category. But they sure do make trimming the tree more enjoyable

Plus there's the whole ninja attack and coming zombie apocalypse thing!

Excellent job, Sar5!

I guess I am going to have to break down and start actually using my Zashi and Waki as I can't ever imagine selling either of them. They don't deserve to be safe queens.

That being said, I would really like to know who came up with the crescent prong pommel design of the Waki and what is its purpose??? I can't figure it out. Is it just for aesthetics?

PS, Dan you need come up with an algorithm to account for the reg date on here. I shouldn't still be considered a Pound Puppy! I just try to listen a lot more than I speak. I make much less of a fool of myself when following this discipline.

That is a good comparison of the blades. I got rid of my Waki but kept the Scizzy for the the same reasons you mentioned above. The Rucki, kinda wish I would have got in on that one but at least I have one!

Up from the depths...

So my guess is the pommel on the Wacki is so it can be lashed to the Rucki. Thoughts?

Also generally interested in thoughts on the Rucki as a machete. Trying to figure out if I'm just trying to force a square peg of want (a really cool sword) into the round round hole of need (a good machete).
