been looking at that one... looks like it's even tapped for the scope mount maybe.

It is definitely tapped for a scope mount.

They are selling (preorder) for $20 more than than the regular threaded 22/45, which goes for about $350. Considering the price of the Tacsol Paclite upgrades that go for $300 and more, this is an awesome deal. Ruger apparently has been watching the modification market and is cashing in on what they have seen there. First the Takedown and now something that will definitely hurt Tactical Solution's sales.

Will I get this? Probably not. I considered it, but to me an aluminum bull barrel is self defeating. I use my pistol for target shooting when I don't want to sell a kidney to keep my 45 fed and rabbit hunting when I want to be able to get a quick second shot should I miss the bunny - not that I ever miss

This gun would not feel as much like a 45 since it is so light and that lightness will also make recoil increase helping the bunny get away if someone misses the first shot like I never do.

That said and without ever actually handling this weapon, if you are looking for a super light survival pistol or just a fun plinker, I am betting this will be the best bang for your buck.

s&w m&p 22lr handgun looks pretty decent. made by walther and they were saying 24oz is the weight. holds 12 in the mag and uses the walther thread adapter that runs about $20.

still hoping keltec will do the pmr30 in .22lr but even if they did probabtly wouldn't see it for a year or so...

JJ - a few thoughts.

Don't forget the Aluminum uppers from TacSol are sleeved. You maintain rigidity without sacrificing weight...great for a pack-pistol. I know nothing about the new LITE model from Ruger though...so not sure about those.

You're thinking about the weight all wrong. Once you add a suppressor, you're back up to your regular weight

I am curious of the barrel manufacture for the new Ruger LITE. They will DEFINITELY take a bite out of TacSol with this.

I actually got this PMR from a buddy that bought it when they first came out. He was on several wait lists and one of the newest gens came available so I got his older one. The difference between the gen I got and the one he got is mine has a fluted brl which Kel Tec has done away with for manufacturing speed reasons, my mags are not drop free when empty, and my frame is a bit less tacky to the feel. I put some rds through this pistol when it was my friends but not since I have acquired it.

As to the mag over the .22lr in a pistol, there is ammo that is formulated for the mag in pistol length brls that push more FPS. I like the advantage of 30 rounds too. If the rumor of a PMR-30 in .22lr materializes I will get one of them too. As a side note from shooting objects with a revolver in .22lr and .22mag the mag does a lot more damage. My brother had a SAA in .22lr/mag combo and the mag punched through things a lot better--unscientific but that is how the guys did their test in the old days (ask pigs and horses).

The short barrel of a handgun does cost a lot of velocity (in 22Mag trim), but there is still more "power" in the Mag.

I've had a couple of Ruger's Single Six's with the 22LR and 22Mag cylinder swap option. I didn't fire a lot of 22Mag due to the unreasonably high cost of that type of ammo, but my very informal tests yielded fairly dramatic performance differences. The Rugers I had were 5.5" if memory serves (this was a long time ago).

I've owned MANY 22LR ...rifles... over the years, and a couple of 22Mags. In a rifle the performance is VERY noticeable. I currently have a CZ452 Varmint in 22Mag for coyotes on my property and a couple of 22LR for everything else.

For rimfire handguns I prefer Ruger's semiautos. I've owned a bunch of rimfire handguns over the years. Here are a few that come to mind:

* 1911 Conversions
* Browning Buckmark (several different configurations)
* Colt Target Model
* Jennings J22
* Phoenix HP22
* North American Arms "Mini Revolver"
* Ruger 22/45 (several different configurations)
* Ruger MkII (several different configurations)
* Ruger MkIII (two configurations)
* Ruger Single Six
* Sig Sauer Mosquito
* Smith & Wesson 17
* Smith & Wesson 18
* Walther P22
* Walther PP
* Walther TPH

There are others, but these came to mind easily. The only 22 handgun I own now is a Ruger MkIII. Its accurate, reliable, and well made.

Been a while since I visited this thread. The PMR-30 is a keeper. I can make very good shots at longer distances, sights being fiber-optic are eay to pick up, 30 rd mag makes nice for a bag/field gun (remember I live in OK, if I were in Bear country it would be a 10mm), and it is accurate. The .22 mag does have less energy coming out of a pistol but it has a lot more than a .22lr. Some of the stuff we were shooting was proof enough for me.

I did get to hold and mess with one of the new Ruger Lt Wt threaded guns, and it feels nice. I would like to have on just in case I ever get to a point again where i can afford some nice toys. Saying that, my father picked up the Ruger SR 22 the other day so my mother can try it out--guessing if she doesn't like it he will end up with it LOL. Anyway, I will update on the Ruger when we get out to shoot it.
