We use a standard grip the way the knives are designed to be used. There are some techniques we use reversed grips, but those are mostly when we are hiding the fact we have a knife.

I remember once when I was a kid my folks and I were out west on vacation. For some reason we got up just as the sun was coming up and it was VERY beautiful rising over the mountains. Same for the Sunset that day as well, we were in Wyoming somewhere.

If I remember, I will climb up the mountains behind base and take some pics of the sunset tomorrow.

Our morning runs are nicer due to the sunrises. I get lost in the vista and forget I am running.

Both grips have their advantages and disadvantages. I've never had any experience with knife fighting, but I would think it would be easy to over extend yourself in the conventional grip if you were doing an extended "Fencing" type attack, and that may just be a rookie mistake.

Sounds like they are concentrating on the right areas. The back of the knee and the back of the upper leg (thigh) are also good targets if you find yourself in position to attack those areas. Then of course that would also open up the kidneys to an attack.
