I have used glocks at work for the last 18 years. We have been issued the gen 4 glock 22's. I have not had a problem with mine but everytime I show up at the range they are changing out one part or another to fix problems they are having with a lot of the pistols.
I don't think thye are having problems with the 9mm or 45s but I don't keep up on that part of the industry.
A good gen 2 or an early Gen 3 and you should be good to go.
The new polymer Sigs I would stay away from. I have not heard good things especially with quality control.

Sig does have a nice caliber conversion kit for 9mm, 40s&w, 357Sig, and 22LR

I have a couple XD's. I really like the full size 45. My wife really likes the 40 xd subcompact.
I like my glocks but my personal carry ones are all older and well proven to be reliable. My duty one is just fine. I am a range instructor for my agency so I get to see all the problems on the range. But when you field 500+ pistols you are bound to see some problems. The gen 4's just seem to have more than I have seen with the past models. Recoil springs and trigger connector bars being the latest 2 tweeks we have done.
If you can get your hands on a gen 4 and it feels like it has a decent trigger. Not the New York trigger, you should be fine. I just have a thing about any weapon that I field has to be 100% reliable with the ammo I use. I won't field one unless it has 500 problem free rounds.
Not to scare you way from glocks. I have had exactly one problem in all the years with any one I have carried and that has been through 10's of thousands of rounds fired. It was a bad magazine. They are a good pistol.

My family has had glocks for years but I want to make a good choice. my Mom also is looking for a 40s&w compact or subcompact so the XD might be a good option for her.

Yes. Its a 11 lbs trigger pull. Our standard is 5.5 lbs trigger pull. Some of the connectors that should have been 5.5lbs were closer to 9.5lbs.
Its an odd thing New York does and I have never seen a reasonable explaination other than insanity.

Got a call from my Dad last night, took Mom to the ER. Her blood pressure and pulse weren't up to speed. He said it was just for observation cause they changed up her meds.
Dad called this morning and said that they were going to operate and put in a pacemaker today sometime, and he would let us know what was going on. She's 80 and hasn't been in good health for the last couple years.
So I probably won't be on much today.
Y'all take care and Pray for my Mom and Dad (he's 83). Prayers sent Randy.
