It was sharp enough when I got it. I will polish the edge when I get home, but all I have is a medium grit diamond and a ceramic rod with me. It didn't have any trouble going through the downed red wood branches I found in the condition I received it. I never went beyond a coarse/medium grit on it.

It was a pain finding enough light to charge my gear today. I hiked about 3 miles before finding a decent break in the canopy to get the solar going. I still had to move it every hour or so as the shadows crawled.

I hit the edge after the last time I used it and scrubbed it up with alcohol and a toothbrush before I sent it out. Can't have our countries finest using an unsanitary tool! And I'm still torqued that it took so long to get to you.

Randy, I usually put a relatively grainy edge on the smaller blades to help with slicing, but I find choppers work better with a refined edge. That said, I fell in love with this thing as soon as it bit into the red wood. It made me feel stupid for humping this darn hatchet into the woods in case the DF didn't "cut it."
